Cayin C9: Dual Nutube, Fully Balanced Class A/AB Portable HeadAmp

I have the LP6K and I've also extensively auditioned the SA700. The SA700's midrange coloration is very evident and sounds excellent with some pairings but yes it's not as universal as the LP6K. However, I would not call the LP6K to have a warm tone per se. It's more on the neutral side with...

Campfire Audio - Satsuma and Honeydew

I added a comparison between the ER3XR and Satsuma in my review. Quoting that here: Campfire Satsuma ($200) vs Etymotic ER3XR ($150): Etymotic ER3XR requires a special, deep-fit that bypasses the second-bend of the ear canal and for some it can be too painful. I can’t use Etymotics for more...

Campfire Audio - Holocene and Mammoth

Agreed with the review, and I think Holocene is the best among the recent Campfire releases. It's the only one that gives that coveted "Andromeda" vibe, though more of the OG Andro rather than the 2020 revision.

    Lotoo Paw 6000 (2019)

I'll also throw in two other names: Cowon and Questyle. There's a common thread between these four brands (Lotoo/Cowon/Questyle/L&P) - they don't care about streaming stuff and doesn't bog down the players with a random version of the Android OS. It's about pure sonic bliss and boy do all of...

    The discovery thread!

Open-back isn't really feasible for many IEMs as it doesn't really help with diaphragm back-pressure for dynamic drivers (and in BA drivers I don't think it's a feasible concept unless you're talking vented BA, even which mostly needs a small vent). The issue with earbuds is that most of them...

    The discovery thread!

The best "budget" planar even now: second hand Audeze iSine 10 (or if you can find a B-stock one) with the Cipher cable (which makes it iOS only). The Cipher V1 cable (much rarer) has excellent tonal balance and the Cipher V2 is more V-shaped but still technically great. Both have the best...

Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread

Final FI-BA-SS + Sony Walkman WM1A (with MrWalkman mod) is one of the best combos I've ever heard. FI-BA-SS never sounded this good.

    Moondrop in-ear monitors Impressions Thread

I had the Starfield and I have both the Aria and Falcon Pro. The latter is even better at midbass though sub bass rumble is tad more noticable on Aria. Mids are about on par in terms of tonality but technicality wise Falcon Pro is a tier above. Treble is more extended and can portray the shimmer...

Review by 'kmmbd' on item 'Cayin C9, TOTL Tube/Solid-State Portable Amplifier'

Cayin is no stranger to amps. In fact, they make some of the best desktop amps out there, including the venerable iHA-6 and the top-dog, the HA-6 (one of the best amps I’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to, by the by). The Cayin C9 is their flagship portable amp, meant to be more transportable...
  13. Final FI-BA-SS (Like New)

A Final FI-BA-SS is for sale which I bought less than a year ago from hifiheadphones. These are rare and quite difficult to get, and with Brexit it's become even more difficult to buy them from UK (where hifiheadphones used to import them). These are Final Audio's previous flagship. You can...

Cayin C9: Dual Nutube, Fully Balanced Class A/AB Portable HeadAmp

I guess for a lot of people the novelty of tubes in a miniature form-factor makes the solid state mode seem less interesting, and that's understandable. However, I was so smitten by the class-A solid state timbre that I kept missing the transparency in other modes. Yes, it would be the HA-6A...
