So I decided to take the plunge and try this mod. Damn,I really need to brush up on my soldering skills. Long story short: much better soundstage at the expense of bass quantity. Highs are a bit harsh,tempered by re-inserting the original foam insert. Overall I am very happy I took the plunge...- Jumba

Very simple ATH-M50 'balance' mod (less bass, more mids)
Well I just tried the mod on my M50's, which have had about 100 hours of burn-in. Although the sound had settled down a lot during this time there was always the niggling issue of the recessed mids. Also, the bass tended to overpower the lower mids a bit, making some recordings sound a bit murky...- Jumba

Thanks m8, I must admit even after 2-3 hours they are sounding better. Right now I certainly don't feel my money has been wasted. ;) Damn, these things keep reaching down and finding more bass. Knopfler sounds like warm butter.- Jumba

Just got mine, ordered from brianf on ebay (lots of folks seem to order theirs from him) - $105US and got to South Africa in about 10 days, which is impressive. First impressions: Hectic amount of bass - almost too much at first, but I believe it will calm down over time. Nice and clean...- Jumba
