Thanks for your answers. I ditched the Audioengine D3 for now, as it seems my current laptop hasn't got any issues driving my 600ohm headphones. I'll keep EqualizerAPO in mind for later use. Cheers, Johan

Didn't use it for a while. Re-installed under Windows 11; same problem, but now Power Mixer doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks, Johan (now in Portugal)

No response from Audioengine. At first they were quick to answer with non-helpful standard responses (reinstall driver etc.) Ended up buying a third party volume control app that can set balance per application (foobar, VLC etc.) I suspect the Audioengine firmware for the TAS1020 USB...

Hi, I recently bought the Audioengine D3 USB DAC to use on my laptop with headphones to improve sound from movies I watch. My ears are probably a bit off so I need to play R channel a bit louder than left. Funny thing is that with the Audioengine the balance control on Windows doesn't work...

  Managed to source a 600 ohm HD-540 with 2 functioning drivers but otherwise in rough shape for close to beer money. Picked up an Unipolar 2000 along the way. So I'm good for now.   Cheers, Johan

No DC on the output of the laptop. Will not check for HF instability for now because if there was any I would doubt there would be enough power to destroy the 600 ohm drivers (and cannot be bothered to hook up my scope). Feel free to correct my assumption   Cheers, Johan     PS took this...

And it's alive again thanks to above posters driver. Very happy to have found a 600 ohm driver which I get the impression are rarer than the 300 ohm ones.   Replacement is a 5 minute job once you've figured out how the thing clicks together.   Cheers and thanks, Johan
