Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)

Quote:   Haha I don't blame you! ;) I work in video sometimes, and I find it absurd that no other area of media but consumer audio is infected with this stuff! As long as it meets spec no-one in vid would ever claim that using a different USB or Firewire or HDSDI affects the colour...

Cable Burn-In....what physically changes in the cable?

I enjoy the original subject! The argument can go elsewhere.    Plus the usual reason: I didn't notice the date ;) DO'H! :S

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)

If one can carry 30-pin protocol to USB within the space of a short cable, is it not possible to convert from standard USB to the USB end of a 30-pin in a similar space? Does anyone know if it's just a matter of pins or a completely different setup?

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)

Quote: To me that sounds like saying your digital pictures from you camera look slightly redder when you transfer them to the PC using a cheap USB cable, but bluer when when the absolute code of the image passes through a silver cable. You can probably gather what I think about that...

Cable Burn-In....what physically changes in the cable?

Old thread, interesting original subject!   Confirmation bias comes into it. People want it to make a difference, so it does. I once watched an apprentice style show from the US, where the twist was that these guys were being treated to luxuries by a fake millionaire. They were talking...

    From HD650 to something else...

Thanks guys, some interesting stuff! On the subject of frequency response and graphs, after so long playing with gear I've learned to only use them as part of the judgement, but for something like the Grado's 'consumer' smile curve it's info enough, so I'll give em a miss. It does show the HD800...

    SE535 vs JH5 (Had Westone 4's)

Quote: That's it, one man treasure is another man's Apple (Fostex) earbud ;)   You do find a lot of re-sales with the SE535 compared to many other sets, I find their BAs a very acquired taste, one I never acquired! I'm more a dynamic man at heart I think, I just thought I'd warn OP...

    From HD650 to something else...

I can indeed run a master bus EQ to correct for rolloff (though it's a bit annoying depending on your monitoring setup, sometimes I forget to toggle it, spend hours mixing through a lie!), but it's not improving the base performance of headphones (or monitors), which is what I'm looking for...

    From HD650 to something else...

Hi all,   I'm a long-time reader but I've not often posted, so it's nice to be wading-in here. :)   I've been using HD650s as my main mix tool (cross referenced with other monitors etc.) in the studio for over a year now. Mixes translate really well to other systems, and I love the tone...

    Quality EQ apps for ipod/iphone/ipad

I only have EQu at the moment, I didn't buy both apps as I figured there's probably little point! But the biggest issue for me is lack of Scrobbling to Last FM! I love how it keeps such a good record of what I listen to on the move. It shouldn't be too hard to let these apps use the log file...

    SE535 vs JH5 (Had Westone 4's)

I owned the SE535 and sold them on, there's no real bass impact to speak of, just really subtle mid-bass unless you crank them to deafening levels, and if you have good full-range hearing the high-end rolloff is too pronounced, and makes things sound positively dead! Very useful for mid-range...
