SRH1540 vs SRH940 vs Focal Spirit Pro

Thanks for your answer. I did read your 1540 review, it was one of the original ones swaying me to that set. The build quality issues on the 940 really do worry me though; my current Fidelio L1s are only two years old and have broken to a point where Philips won't repair them.   Honestly I...

SRH1540 vs SRH940 vs Focal Spirit Pro

Hi folks   I'm moving country and will likely be sharing a studio/room with my girlfriend for a few months before we find a bigger place.   I'm a semi-pro composer and so need a pair of headphones that I can mix on. I thought about getting a nice open pair (HD650/HD600) but from what I'm...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

Hi Sdpenha - unfortunately I can't try either pair on. But as I said I think I'll go for the Sennheiser 650s, which are apparently comfortable!

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

Well I think I'm settled on the 650s. The 840s seem great, but then I've come across some terrible reviews.   This is the audio interface I have. I can't find the headphone output power anywhere, but given it's a 'professional' card I'd say it has enough power. It's not a tube amp that's...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

I've read around even more...read about the Shure SRH1440s, but a little worried they are going to be too bright for me. A lot of the old metal I listen to is pretty brittle anyway, and many of my favourite soundtracks (modern Zimmer and Shore) have a lot going on in the lower end; I think I'll...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

Then we're down to the 840s and the senn 650s. I'm sure the 650s sound better but again, a little worried about "wasting" them if they run only through my Motu.

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

It's hard to choose which road to go - "fun" or accurate. I guess I want something a little more fun than neutral, but not totally coloured. Seems the 840s make more sense? Just how much detail am I losing in the 840s vs the 940s?   In terms of price point the 650's seem almost double than...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

There seems to be a bit more of a swing towards the Shure 840s over the 940s - especially in sound quality (from random readings on the net). Any comments on that? I would have thought because of the 'higher' model number they are newer so sound better....   They seem more affordable but if...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

Thanks for the reply Macho!   It is hard for me to judge what 'good bass' means on here. As I said I'm running a pair of Rokit RP6's and love the sound, plenty of bass for me; relatively cheap monitors considering what is out there.     My main daily listening (when outside) is with a...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

The more I think and read the more I think I'll go with the 650s...seem to have a very good sound - a bit of a bigger (non neutral) bass will make games/movies more enjoyable for me. I'll use me CX500s for my ipod/ipad and be done with it?   I realise the MOTU Traveller might not be the best...

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

Thanks for the reply. My main issue with the Shure's is that apparently the bass is severly lacking, and while I wouldn't say I'm a 'basshead' (new term I learnt today!), I'd like it to be there. Other than that, apparently they also have some comfort issues.

Lost in a sea of headphones, have some odd requirements

Hi folks,   So I'm in the market for a new set of headphones. I've searched the net and read probably thousands of reviews on this site over the last few hours and am still having difficulty coming to a decision.   First up, my background: - I am a semi-pro composer for film, games...
