Hugo 2 is as good as any to my ears. Superb quality and sound. Anything more expensive would see diminishing returns in my opinion.

You are incorrect - it has nothing to do with your hands or screen protector. I'm not sure why you would choose to comment on this issue if you haven't experienced it yourself.

I have only tried FLAC files. It pauses. You have to press playi to get it to start again. Can happen about 5 times during a 3 minute long song

Paul - please look into why the music will sometimes pause in the middle of a song without any buttons or the screen being touched. This happens in Mango. Thanks James

I have tried with purely digital 24 bit tracks too and still find I get the popping sound - so as you suggest, it's nothing to do with vinyl rips.   Perhaps @Paul - iBasso can advise as to whether this is a common problem!?
