SoX on Mac Help! (de-emphasis)
I have been looking all over to find a helpful guide for someone like myself who has never worked with command line programs before and have been unsuccessful. I have downloaded the sox package, but I have no idea where to even go from here. Would someone be so kind as to give me...- JackStraw90

Question about pre-emphasis
Thanks for your reply. I do not have the cd now. Someone de-emphasized the files for me while ripping to FLAC. I'm not sure what method they used to de emphasize the files. My question is if I convert those FLAC files to ALAC using XLD if the ALAC files will still have the DE EMPHASIS that was...- JackStraw90

Question about pre-emphasis
I have a FLAC copy of the Toshiba/EMI black triangle Abbey Road that has already has already had the de-emphasis applied to it for ease of computer listening. I was wondering if I convert the FLAC files to ALAC to play in itunes/ipod if the de-emphasis will remain with the files or if it will be...- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
Quote: For me it was about convenience and not having to use another outlet. I also don't know much about coaxial or optical. I am just used to the USB to RCA plugs.- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
Devilsound still sounds great! Personally, I haven't noticed much of a change with the so-called "burn-in," but I did compare it to a 3.5mm jack going from the auxiliary jack on my computer to the receiver and noticed quite a difference. It was mainly in the bass. With the external DAC the bass...- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
Just got the devilsound today! It sounds fantastic! Looking forward to hearing how the sound changes with the burn-in period. I was wondering if I should set the volume on my computer and on itunes at 75% or 100%. Any thoughts? Cheers- JackStraw90

So the devilsound has been on backorder since I ordered it, which I'm taking as a good sign. It was just shipped today, so I'll let everyone know what I think after a couple weeks of listening. Cheers!- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
Quote: I was looking at the ODAC on the JDS Labs website. Is there any benefit to having the RCA output as opposed to the standard 3.5mm jack? Will the RCA output deliver a higher quality sound to my receiver, and if so how noticeable will it be without really high end equipment?- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
Quote: Thanks Ronald, I'll check that out. Quote: Ah that makes sense. I have a pair of the original series Bose 301 bookshelf speakers from the 70s and really enjoy the sound they produce from my CD player. I found a used Music Fidelity V-DAC (the original one; not the MKII)...- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
Thanks for the input. I also forgot to mention that I am really partial to warm, vinyl-like sound. I don't like the overly-bright sound that is too often heard in digital music today. Most of what I listen to is Grateful Dead, but I also listen to a lot of folk, bluegrass, jazz, and reggae. One...- JackStraw90

Help Choosing a computer DAC
I've been looking at the Devilsound ds DAC v2.1 and have read some good reviews. I have a Denon AVR 1500 receiver hooked up to original series Bose 301s which I re-foamed a few months ago. I have a Denon DCD 1500 CD player hooked up that sounds great. I usually use my Macbook Pro to play music...- JackStraw90
