FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NEW Nuforce uDAC-2 with 24/96 - USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
Cool screws, Jason. :) I use the crap out of mine every day, mostly for my 2.1 desktop speaker system. I run from the uDAC-2 to my SVS SB12-NSD sub (which high-passes the sats at 80Hz) then onto a pair of Fostex PM0.4 actives. Just killer, and great source material like the new 24/96 remasters...- JackG

Quote: Thanks Jason. Mine is fine after the reset I was just a little concerned about the amount of heat produced. I only swapped cables after it happened.- JackG

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NEW Nuforce uDAC-2 with 24/96 - USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
Strange episode today. I noticed I wasn't getting a signal to my right speaker and swapped cables at the uDAC-2 RCA outs to confirm it was a DAC issue. While swapping cables I found the uDAC-2 to be really hot. I unplugged the USB cable from the back, waited a couple seconds, and after plugging...- JackG

1. No. 9. Dell Studio XPS desktop, no hub/extension. 10. The cable that came with the uDAC. 11. No tone/noise here with my Panasonic HJE900 IEM, Grado SR60i, or AT ATH-M50. Quote:- JackG

Abandoning Panasonic HJE900
Agree. Comply sound nice and warm on the 900's but they do roll off the highs quite a bit making for a rather heavy balance given the already generous bass.. Not a trace of sibilance or harshness with them but a little too dark in the end for me. Might be just the thing for those who are more...- JackG

S/PDIF is digital. S/DPIF can transmit up to 5.1 as a bitstream depending on implementation. However, as far as I know the uDAC2 won't accept or pass compressed bitstreams like DD or DTS so the most you'll get from it is 24/96 stereo PCM. If you're hearing 5.1 then your receiver is deriving...- JackG

All the binaural recording you know.
Quote: Haven't listened to it over 'phones in quite a while but I do recall some distinctly binaural effects on TFC. One that comes to mind is the walking during "Paranoid Eyes". I tried to get into binaural and even grabbed a few recordings but for some reason, regardless of...- JackG

Just an observation on the utility of the S/PDIF output: Even some fairly high-end stuff can use help wrt USB or network connections. My '09 Denon AVR-4310 receiver (MSRP $1999) is limited to 16/48 for USB or network interface but with the uDAC-2 I can feed its coax input with 24/96. Pretty cool...- JackG

Great review! I appreciate that you update the first post. I've been using one of these for my desktop PC system with A/T ATH-M50 'phones and Fostex PM0.4 active monitors and just loving it. The bass, punch, and detail from the ATH-M50 is really fantastic and quite a step up from plugging...- JackG
