Frequency response graph can be very misleading to say the least

Update: Amazon refunded me money and I reordered KSC75. Paid $13 and got the real thing this time. Used Vollenweider music again and Koss' deep bass is much worse compared to Sony V6, but high treble is noticeable better. I use these tracks for testing bass and treble, respectively...

Sony MDR-V6 for studio use and casual listening?

Quote:   I have no problems with ipod powering these. V6 are very sensitive phones (107 dB).   Not sure of the "PC beware" part.   They are fantastic for electronic music and drums IMHO, but also good for general listening. Disclamer: I'm not audiphile or snob.

Frequency response graph can be very misleading to say the least

UPDATE:   My bad, my bad, my bad. The headphones I received are not KSC75 but KSC21! The only reason I found out, I happened to go to Koss website and looked at pictures and the headphones I received exactly matched KSC21. I'm very unhappy with Amazon to say the least as I ordered KSC75...

A question about frequency response, particularly treble.

Are you talking about headphones? if so, I believe it has to do with resonance and other acustic properties of external ears.

"the vinyl has been replaced by the CD, largely inferior in quality"

As it has been mentioned above, this thread is a waste of time, save for the entertainment value.   It's not like LP (or tube amps) were outlawed. The market fills in the needs for LPs, and one is free to use them if one can hear the difference and/or likes the esthetics of analog disk.  ...

Quote: I'm sure they will be if there a market for those.   Apparently there is a market for $500 speaker cables too.

    Headphone impedance

I'm not sure impedience is the only story. There is a nice comparison between MDR-V6 and HD280pro, and while HD280pro is a better headphone, V6 sounded much better on iPod due to it's high sensitivity, low power requirement, and intrinsingly strong bass...

    Comments on my Audiogram (test)

What is your age? That would make all the difference.

"the vinyl has been replaced by the CD, largely inferior in quality"

Quote: Not really. MP3 at a decent bitrate are indistinguishible from CD: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Transparency   Yet, they offer very easy storage compared to PCM. Thus, they are better for consumers. This is why they take over.

"the vinyl has been replaced by the CD, largely inferior in quality"

Is CDs were so inferior, why they took over then? I had a vinyl collection at late 70's/early 80's and I hated the hiss and cracks from dust. I always felt trebles sounded unnatural in CDs, but it was a lesser evil.

Frequency response graph can be very misleading to say the least

Iniamyen is right. I was also confused myself by the semantics of the word decay. I guess the strict meaning of sound decay is the opposite of sound persistence.

    Misconception of "neutral / accurate"

Quote: Did you actually read one of the comments?     Quote:   To me it sounds like the AR's work was not just a commercial gimmick and Dr Olive has a personal bias against these things. I do agree, there should be more science involved.

    Misconception of "neutral / accurate"

I remember reading once that one ultimate test for a high end audio would be playing a very high quality source of sound (lets say a recording of a person speaking or singing) and producing a perfect illusion of actual person speaking or singing without any distortions giving away a clue about...

Frequency response graph can be very misleading to say the least

I used both laptop soundcard (that sounds decent to my ear) and my old, but mid-range 5.1 receiver set to Stereo without any DSP. Don't know about the actual impedance values in the amps.   I'm now convinced that the sound decay is the issue, as the Japanese graphs show a huge difference...
