I do indeed apologize in advance for posting a question before reading the whole thread but - it IS 200+ pages now! Here's my application : I control live sound at a church and mix the audio both for the congregation AND a webcast. My listening position is close to a drummer and a pianist...- J Epstein

Adam Gopnik: Music To Your Ears
This article is a great complement to another wonderful read that I'll shout out here: Perfecting Sound Forever: An Aural History of Recorded Music by Greg Milner One topic they have in common is the way in which our supposed "march towards perfection" in audio is being turned upside...- J Epstein

Just got the Ety ER-4P
I found that it did take a while to get used to one aspect of the Ety sound, which another poster described in more detail above. Sionce they go All The Way into your ear, there is no sense of "air" or "thump" and this is a very different sensation for bass tones than I was used to. It's like...- J Epstein

Metal Case Problem
Some RCA jacks come with nylon washers which will insulate them from a metal chassis, then they have a washer with a solder lug for the ground connection. If look for them, you will find them - Mouser or Radio Shack or elsewhere. -j- J Epstein

Just got the Ety ER-4P
I'm guessing you don't have them fully seated, if you can hear people talking nearby. I prefer the foam to the white rubber tips too. Twist the foam between your fingers until they are small and narrow (they will expand later.) Put them ALL THE WAY INTO your ears - there will be a bend...- J Epstein

New Etymotic headphone?
Don - good luck with the new 'phone introduction. If you can get similar sound to the ER4 series - almost as good - with equal or near-equal isolation (VERY IMPORTANT contribution to the ETY sound anyway!) at a much cheaper price you will probably have a lot of new customers. You could also get...- J Epstein

Do Etymotic ER4'S last forever? Maybe!
12022 & 12563 (12563 was a recent factory replacement for the original driver, no, they do NOT last forever!) Purchased in 1998. Very Satisfied Customer. -j- J Epstein

New Etymotic headphone?
I recently had a repair done to my ER-4S's and the original cable was replaced with a newer, longer cable. The old was too short, the new is slightly too long - for a portable setup. Howver it is about right for listening at home. I say keep the current length! New Ety's? Do tell? -j- J Epstein

Etymotics?!?
1) When I bought my Etys, the 4P was not yet available. So that's one reason! 2) What I read about the comparison made me glad I made the choice I did - the consensus seemed to me to be that the 4P gave you MORE but the 4S gave you BETTER. I'll take better thankyouverymuch. 3) I actually...- J Epstein

Etymotics?!?
I certainly wouldn't slag off the performance of the Ety ER4S out of a portable, I've been using them like this for 3 years and I'm very very happy. I tried Headroom's least expensive amp - the Airhead - and sent it back, it did nothing positive for the sound. YMMV, of course. -j- J Epstein

Etymotics and the Ear
Hi, this is my first post on the board. Cool board! I've been using ety's for three years now; here's my take on it. The huge isolation provided by the ety's tends to allow me to play them much less loudly than I would other headphones. This is especially true in a noisy situation like...- J Epstein
