Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

    >>> M scaler fot TT1 is a waste of money I wrote it some time ago. It's better to buy TT2 and then add m scaler. I respectfully disagree - for my use in my system. I started with TT1 which suited my system very well and added HMS - the improvement was major, the sound became very enjoyable...

    Watts Up...?

I ordered ferrites (not cables) from Farnell UK in July 2018, (the order mentions "Farnell Element14" in one part but just "Farnell" elsewhere). I don't think I had to prove I was in the trade : I'm in IT with my little limited company not electronics. HTH, Hugh

I had owned a TT 1 for maybe a year when I bought the M Scaler. I moved to the TT 2 a few months after buying the M Scaler. If you like the tonal balance of the TT1 then losing money (50% ?) p/x'ing your TT 1 for a TT 2 is probably an expensive move : it's a useful jump in quality BUT will not...

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I owned the Hugo TT Mk 1 and when used solo or with the HMS, it was my most enjoyable sound (through a pre/power and speakers) even though using just half the available taps on the HMS. I find my current TT 2 + HMS to be a less friendly sound but do like the ability to see the exact volume level...

WAVE Web site currently lists (under "Dual BNC cables for Chord Mscaler and Blu MkII") : Storm (GBP 1495), then the lighter more flexible new version of Storm named Stratos (GBP 1195) then Stream (GBP 895). In my HMS/TT 2 setup the Stream was relaxed and neutral but the Storm was noticeably...

I saw this when the USB input of the HMS lost sync with the Innuos Phoenix' USB output after turning kit off and on in the wrong order. This loss of USB sync also gave horrendous, clanging, metallic distortion into the TT 2 - completely unlistenable. In my case, power-cycling the Phoenix fixed...

I think RW mentioned M Scaler RFI frequency of 2GHz when recommending Wurth ferrite part numbers for M Scaler to DAC BNC cables. HTH, Hugh

Comparison video from Pursuit Perfect Systems on YouTube I really liked my TT Mk 1 but never heard a Hugo 2, just my disiked Hugo Mk 1 which I p/x'd for the TT in less than a year. HTH, Hugh

Re using an M Scaler in single-BNC mode Personally, I was extremely happy when I added my M Scaler to a TT Mk 1 and had funds not permitted moving to the better ergonomics of the TT 2, no batteries and also full dual-BNC usage of the M Scaler I would have been just as happy to stick with the TT...

If the power used by the HMS in standby is not too high (> 1 Watt? I don't know, sorry) I'd be fine with that. I would definitely use a mains protection product. I use a Russ Andrews MegaClamp to protect my whole system but prefer to remove it from the mains block when listening. Cheaper...

I thought FIFTEEN Volts was the safe maximum for M Scaler or TT 2? Suggest you check this out ASAP. HTH Hugh

Could you please share some more details of the setup change you made to make hi-res files worthwhile? I have never been very impressed with hi-res vs. CD rips even using HMS + TT 2 but also my earlier Chord DACs (DAC64,Hugo,TT). Many thanks, Hugh

I have a Cyrus CD XT Signature transport and it works via HMS into a BNC input but I have only used it very briefly into HMS. I always use my Innuos Zenith Mk 3 music server instead, running Roon. HTH, Hugh

    Watts Up...?

Have you heard both pairings, HMS/TT and HMS/TT 2, for a long time in a known system? I have heard both pairings for several months each in my own system. If not, by all means state your opinion... but maybe (MusicKid) in a slightly less dogmatic way? Enjoyment of music is subjective, not purely...

Yes, I have HMS and TT 2 now but the original TT is now (to me) the sweet spot in SQ vs. cost for DACs (YMMV but Hugo Mk 1 bored me after my DAC64) if you can get one used or have one already. I use the volume control on TT 2, driving a pre-power and speakers, no headphones. Cheers, Hugh
