The P8A socket/base junction makes tube not as easy to remove... I have some EL3N tube with plasters. In TSF forum, some uses a specific glue recipe to make glass and tube base tight together they also add some bandage once glue is dry. Tis is in order to prevent damage when removing tube, it...

I have the same issue with my new amp... I was really more than lucky to find the builder next to my Home ! The builder came home and did a quick diagnose this should be repaired when he have time. I Also had an issue with fuse on Thomas amp at the very first. (like @OctavianH ) The story...

@Isaacc7 I'm using old Russian version 6П7С of the 6bg6ga. I'm very pleased with It and even more than with some 807 tube I have. I'm a bit curious about the 13D1 tube, is it a 25V SN7 like https://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/155/1/13D1.pdf ? Have you ever compared with 12SN7GT (I'm only limited to...

In a plain old standard design (cathode follower Push Pull) you can have ultra-linear/Triode switch done inside the amp. You MUST use switch as it is not only strapping pin of the tube it is also changing connection to output transformer. In our amplifier we just have triode mode using strapping...

For the curious one, For those who like to look under skirts... This is inside my new amp, no printed pcb just testing ones to soldier the CAPs . All is on the AIR and the transformer have been built on demand in pure old tradition..

The old tubes used pure lead for soldering wire to the tube base. It could be difficult to remove old stuff without heating too much. Instead of re-soldering the best is probably to first de-soldier competetelly using flux and pump and then cleanup wire and change base to octal.

For me it was the same with EL3N and FDD2 and i just concluded this was due to the socket/tube junction when you move/twist a bit the tube you can have a strange connection. The way to secure it is to cleanup the tube base "copper plate" and even make them a bit flat to prevent twisting. My...

I would like have RFT , but it is just RSD. If i can get more info, i will try to run with 6M6 if not out of range to reduce output power. I do have too many Watt for my level of listening...

I got it without any information nor documentation.. I'm trying to get a bit more. I was able to open it and using what i see it is autobias and plate voltage should be around 350V but did not experimented too much nor did some measure. it was delivered with a quad of RSD from early 80s, a pair...

Yes, it is build like a tank ! But what makes the impression of "being so big" is the placement of transformers in the side instead of in the back... The box is a large rectangle instead of a square with 25Kg of metal  The chrome-plated transformer cover is similar to Jolida but the...

Thomas suggested to have a bigger bias range up to -30V to be able to use more penthode in input. It is less precise and i remember that it was not a huge modification on his side...

Your Odyssey is using "standard SET design". The synergy between driver and output is much more critical than with the Eternity using input (not driver) and output tubes using @MrCurwen design. With Odyssey, you always have to find a good matching combo as the input will give a lot of flavor...

10V -5/+5 in XLR output of your synth in open circuit or feeding input impedance of (pre-)amp ? With Synth, you can generate a Sine at 50 or 60Hz and use a voltmeter in AC mode directly plugged in the amp and measure inside the plug, you just have to use a std pro cable XLR 2 XLR cable and...
