24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

We are at it again, applying terms which are normally used in other perception fields, to hearing  From a visual point of view, transparency of a medium is its capacity to leave the image unchanged, when interposed between a scenery and the observer. Applying this to hearing/audio...

Fidelizer Pro - Real or Snake Oil?

We can maybe collect some VC, and setup a Lab for professionally driven A/B tests, where if a product meets a certain human detectable threshold, we release a Certificate Of Audibility to manufacturers which wants to qualify and be able to use such certificate in their marketing campaigns. My...

    Understanding Dither

Was the A/B pattern fixed and published? Because if it was, I can see folks with an agenda or the other, to post results based on that knowledge. In order to be a true A/B test, A/B patterns needs to be randomly generated by the software, and results somehow signed by the application. Only that...

    ESS DACs "Sabre glare" measurements?

These are the same folks that when you actually ask them to sit down in an "eye impaired" test to spot such glare, they vanish like vampires at dawn.

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

A low impedance at 20KHz is not huge concern for an amp, current wise, as power (hence voltage, hence current feed) at that frequency is very low. I'd be more concerned with phase, as any resistance within the feedback loop, paired with sub Ohm capacitive load, can create some trouble to stability.

    Philips SHP9500 Discussion Thread

I think top power is 200mW for the 9500. But feeding 190mW to them at 100dB/mW will mean hear loss. At only 100mW you get 120dB. http://www.digizoid.com/power.php

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

    1) Seems to me that BigShot mentioned "with music" ... and I have not seen anything in the cut&paste you posted, that contradicts that. 2) We are not all the same in hearing. Even if ones does a 100K (and no one went even close to that) individual testing which will result in a 20ns mean, you...

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

I think we should be able to continue the conversation with tones tuned down :relaxed: Still, we have to remember that testing with real music is different from the way masking is usually tested. The latter involves playing the masking tone (1 single frequency - at a specific amplitude) and...

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

What is the proof of that being a myth and an egregious error? I think that part is missing here. While his statement "barely change" does not give enough information about how much were actually changed, I am actually not too surprised with his statement. Being mid frequencies the ones that our...

    Variations in people's hearing responses

Agreed, hearing responses and hearing preferences are two separate things. But could also be intermingled. Do I like "more highs" because I simply like more highs, or because they compensate my hearing deficiency on the highs? I'd tend to think the former, but it's hard to prove.

Is burn in real or placebo?

Is burn in real or placebo?

It is not only the volume, but also the position of the mic compared to the driver, which changes with pressure. There were sweeps posted in a link I am not able to find anymore, were using the dummy head, and varying the position of the mic within the ear cavity, changed responses pretty...

Is burn in real or placebo?

Actually, I said the contrary, but maybe the "Ohh, hmm, meh, ..." did not convey clearly enough my skepticism.

Is burn in real or placebo?

Which part of my post was stating that subwoofers behave the same as IEMs (or else)? Clearly in a sub the mechanical dynamics of the system are stretched to the max, and there it was shown that it was possible to measure them. Conventional HP drivers, in order to generate sound, they have to...
