If it works by compressing dynamic range, that explains my reaction to the sound. Time to switch it off...

Can anyone tell me what the Dynamic Normalizer actually does? I know it provides the effect of a volume boost on quieter tracks, but does it do this by messing with the file itself? It's useful at times, but I'm not convinced that it isn't affecting sound quality.

Just a further thought: My ZX100 will come without the noise cancelling earbuds supplied with the European version. Is it worth me getting a pair of these (I've seen them for around £50) or are there better noise cancelling options? I've no idea how good the built in NC is...

It turns out that the ZX100 on its way to me is the Korean version, so that should mean no volume cap. In anticipation of its arrival, I've installed Media Go and and am migrating the iTunes library across to it. We'll see what happens...
