The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

The DAC / AMP I used cost more than four times what I paid for the 560S. No rough edges for me (far from it) and, like others, I preferred their balance to more expensive headphones.

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

Too right. From a Topping A90D, all balanced, I preferred them to the 650 and 800S models.

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

That's fair enough. I had the 600 at home for a couple of weeks - but, 'legend' though that is, I preferred the overall sound of the 560S. I've also recently borrowed the 650, the 800S and a Topping A90D from a friend - and had a good listen, balanced, to all of them. I must admit to being a...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

Not the easiest job (understatement), but worth it

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

You do know the 560S has a balanced option don't you? (As the Senn. sponsor, you must do I would have thought ). Single sided cable yes, but with a 4-pole connection on the single side. The (originally supplied) 3 metre cable even has 4-cores - when it only needed to have 3 cores to...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

I went for the 560S because they're not 'warm and intimate'. As with my speakers, it's essential to me that symbols sound open and clear (i.e. natural) and not as if they're covered with a lightweight blanket. When listening to music on the 560S, I don't feel I'm missing anything and, more...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

They were briefly £113 new from Amazon UK - surely the best ever headphone bargain. I paid £152 from Sennheiser Direct. I've just compared them with the £1400 880S out of a Topping A90D (both models from its balanced output). Even at full £169 rrp, the 560S are phenomenal value.

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

Good question. They'd be right to say that 3m is too long for the majority of people. But they would sell a few, there should at least be the option.

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

As 'To To Man' said, it's possible to do a modification. But look up working with Litz cable so that you're aware what's involved before you decide to DIY. If you do go ahead, a good tip is not to cut the 6.35mm TRS plug directly off at the strain relief....but leave some attached cable - that...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

Don't beat yourself up - it's not just a case of dexterity. I've been soldering for (too many) decades, it was my job. But the 4 cores are Litz cables (used for flexibility)....I can tell you that once you started, you'd soon be thinking they earn their £35  ...although XLR would be a...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

That was bad luck.....the luck of the draw. After buying mine, they were briefly on sale for £113, which has to be the best ever headphone bargain surely. Hopefully you'll get a 3 metre cable - and if it's 4-core (as the original supplied 3m cable was) then your shop will be able to modify it...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

If you believe that cables make an audible difference, then go ahead and spend. I bought a perfectly good 1.2m balanced cable for around a quarter of the budget you've allowed - albeit with the right-angled plug that you don't want. The point is, there's no need to spend 50 Euros. Also, bear in...

And for those that don't know, the supplied 3 metre cable has 4 cores. Which means that it requires only the appropriate amp-end connector for balanced use. And the 'Pentaconns' are a lot cheaper than they once were (when I first looked, I kid you not, they wanted £100+ for a plug)...

    Sennheisser HD560S balanced?

Almost 8 months later, you've probably got your cable by now. But the brown one here is 1.2 metre https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294055481007?hash=item4477128eaf:g:EQ4AAOSw2XJgSGbT (When I first looked for a Pentaconn plug for the supplied Sennheiser cable, the cheapest available was £116...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

What it is, is a cable with a plug at each end which, believe me, delivers 'sufficient audio parameters' As you no doubt saw, it's certainly not the price of a 'quality product'. Perhaps you're concerned that it's Chinese-made. Well not sure about yours, but my 560S were made in China :thumbsup...
