    Sony MDR-1000X

I've tried pairing with phone and laptop and it works fine (phone for calls and laptop for audio).   Switching between two audio sources is not too bad either, since pairing is really quick. Of course if you are constantly switching then the QC35 might be a better option.

The firmware can't be updated as far as I'm aware.

As long as the BT is connected, it won't shutdown. You don't need to have music playing.

Regarding voice muting, it is noticeable but not a big difference.   You can only hear a slight hiss from the Sonys with the ANC turned on in an extremely quiet environment, in which case you should just turn the ANC off anyways (something you can't do with the Bose)

    Sony MDR-1000X

Bought the MDR-1000x yesterday from the airport, there is a nice £60 discount compared to Amazon here in the UK.   Compared to the QC35 (which I trialled at a store):   - The QC35 are slightly more comfortable as they are lighter. - The build quality of the Sony's is better - The Sony's...
