I tried that but one side of the battery was blank and the other double sided tape to hold it in place and I tried to remove that but too much residue. I did not want to handle a bloated battery too much so gave up on that. I am happy to have it as a budget DAC for my work desk.

Follow up to my initial post. I opened the FiiO E7 and removed the battery. It was indeed very much bloated! I covered the battery leads inside the E7 with electrical tape and closed it up. I then plugged it into my laptop via USB and it fired right up! So from all appearances it is not...
