Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread
Looks like my luck has ran out. AS-10 that I received had a mid/ mid-high driver that was wired out of phase. I believe the h5 is rebranded magaosi k5/ toneking tk2. If this is correct, the as-10 has considerably better low end response than my k5, however there is still a bit of a mid bass...- fldrice

Cheap headphones that are better quality than Monster beats solo?
An ATH-ES7 would sound much better than the solos. If you're really JVC flats ($5-10) with the fullness mod and proper burn-in will sound better than the solo beats. I'm actually quite impressed with the pair of flats I got. I wasn't really expecting much from them.- fldrice

Quick question about the Audio Technica AD700 Headphones
AD700 don't seem to benefit much from amping and work fairly well out of the laptop, ipod etc... If you're feeling adventurous, you can perform reversible mods on the AD700 that should address some of their deficiencies. http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/448567/ath-ad700-ad900-mods- fldrice

Any Mods for the AD700/ AD500's?
Did you even search? http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/ath...0-mods-448567/ You could probably dynamat the back of your drivers. If you do, make sure you leave holes in the dynamat for the ports at the back of the drivers. Quote: Originally Posted by xguntherc I already have the...- fldrice

Shure Srh-440 vs Ath-M50
To mod your m50s: 1) pull of the pads 2) remove the screws 3) remove the foam plug @ the back driver (the pic is an srh440 driver but the concept is the same) 4) Add some fiberloft/polyfill into the cups (equal amounts in both cups-I would use half the amount that you would think you need &...- fldrice

Shure SRH440 'Foam plug' mod

$110 and under: Denon ah-d1001 vs ath-m50 vs ath-es7

ath-m50, srh440, or srh840 unamped. And a small story
Both the m50 and the 840 will benefit from amping. However, the m50 is much smaller compared to the shures and therefore, more portable.- fldrice

Portable Closed Headphones sub $150...
The m50 is much smaller than the 440. For portable use, I would pick the m50 out of the two. One caveat about the m50 is that it requires a LOT of burn-in/break-in, I would say at least 300hrs. However, the m50 will benefit from amping which is something not reported by most 440 owners.- fldrice
