Frankly, I think the iesl survives on brand hype. Having the iesl, mjolnir SRD-7, lundhail SRD-7, and wee all side by side, it wasn't even realy a competition. And the bias mod is just putting a resistor on the bias pin to avoid inrush. It dumb unlikely to ever be am issue, but the mod removes...

Just to be honest, I would look at changing from an iESL to a woo wee (you will need to bias mod it, but it's a 15 min job). That will likely be a significantly larger impact in stage and seperation than going dual mono would.

The bass is the real issue with shang and I don't find stx, 3es, or basicaly anything gets it to where it's needs to be. The bass is what's kept me from switching away from sus the entire time tbh

I'm exceptionaly currious about your impressions with shang. For he90 I had other enegizers that were for sure equals if not passing it, but I can't get it and shang out of my head and I have 0 idea how much of that is show hype vs real love.

Extremely extremely true. May level is where I find dacs start diverging fairly significantly sound wise while maintaining similar overall performance levels

Certain examples of dacs competing above where their new pricing indicates doesn't mean that no improvements are left to be had. Also, just fwiw, the may being an end all dac, much the less just generally pleasing isn't exactly a universal take. I'm personaly not a fan of it even in comparison...
