If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I have a set that I had made decades ago. Unfortunately, they had a tendency to break the plastic tips of the older model ER-4s. And while they worked great at home, less the same degree of isolation that I get from the triple flange, they looked profoundly dorky when on the street or subway.

I did not know about these. Let me check them out. Thank you so much!

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I'm a long-term Etymotic ER-4s user, having first purchased these in 1998. They've been my primary IEM since then. I don't use them as much for listening as I use to, for various reasons - none having to do with a dissatisfaction with the sound. But I will add that for overall noise reduction...

Whats the best Linux distro for Audiophile?

Another option is for me to build a modern machine! Might be easier. But I just wanted to know if anyone else had encountered this. Thank you!

Whats the best Linux distro for Audiophile?

The only problem with Daphile - and I use it - is that my installation has a curious tendency to occasionally stall out during use. One moment the music is flowing, the next it's suddenly stopped (even if the interface indicates that the track is still continuing). I've upgraded to every...

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150

Anybody try swapping out the battery on a N3? Mine is beginning to run down pretty quickly (or quicker than I remembered...) and I saw that someone is selling a alleged replacement battery on Aliexpress. Anybody try doing this repair?

    Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings

Watched these Tilson-Thomas Mahler programs (from the SF Symphony's Keeping Score series) last week. They are now being steamed by the orchestra via youtube. Keeping Score - Gustav Mahler: Origins - Keeping Score - Gustav Mahler: Legacy - Highly recommended for the storytelling. Even...

    Prebuilt versus homemade PC's?

I've been building my own PCs for more than 20 years, and the big advantage is that you know what is going into your build, and you decide on which compromises you are willing to live with. I'm routinely shocked by the compromises that major PC manufacturers make in order to save a few dollars...

    Best headphones for classical music

Interesting thread. I'm primarily a classical orchestral listener looking to potentially upgrade from DT880s - which I generally like, but am always looking to improve on. I've owned planar loudspeakers (Apogee Acoustics) now for more than 30 years, so I've been curious about how the...

Whats the best Linux distro for Audiophile?

I assume that you Windows 10 advocates are shutting down all kinds of background services when running music. For me, the constant interruptions in the audio stream became too intrusive in any version of Windows that I've used - although I have been considering an at least partial move back to...

Daphile: A New Thread Title Appears!

Kimmo (the developer of Daphile) tends to discourage use of the RT-Kernel version. In a distro tailored to do just one thing, play back music, in a PC with sufficient processing power, the latency issue shouldn't arise. As I understand it, the RT-Kernel comes more into play in music production...

Daphile: A New Thread Title Appears!

I've been using Daphile for the better part of two years. I boot it from a USB flash, although the developer writes that this is not the ideal way to use it. Still, I want my media PC to be a multi-function entertainment machine - and thus need a full-featured Linux OS on the hard drive to...

How many of you have tinnitus?

Well, I've pretty much abandoned headphones except in high noise environments (like the Subway) because of my tinnitus.  I tolerate the tinnitus much more gracefully when listening through the big loudspeakers.  The hiss is there, but I can listen through it more easily.    I had an...

    Schiit Bifrost 4490 impressions

Got mine yesterday, simply plugged it into to my home media center with no burn in, and found it extremely musical.  CDs with a tendency to be ever-so-bright had no unpleasant edge at all, and the DAC had this very preliminary impression of a touch of warmth.     Again, this is just out of the...

Whats the best Linux distro for Audiophile?

Based on the advice of people here and over at Computer Audiophile, I ended up with Lubuntu and Daphile (with Puppy Audio as a backup).  I run both Daphile and Puppy from a bootable USB drive.     I also have an older machine with Audiophile Linux 2.1 installed - but I stayed away from 3.0 &...
