looking for very short Type-c to Type-c USB OTG cable ? anyone know ?
LOL, anyone who would pay $140 for a 1 foot USB Type-C cable has more money than sense. It has been shown repeatedly (read: thousands of times) that inexpensive (but not junk) digital cables are sonically, digitally indistinguishable from the expensive ones. I actually read a response from an... -

OK, did some digging, and have a bit of good news\bad news for users of USB-C. First, the good news. If the connections are both USB Type-C, and you have a proper quality cable, it should just work. There is no longer any such thing as OTG (unless you are connecting down to a Micro or Mini or... -

Did you ever find a source for these? I'm also looking for one. It's baffling that Type-C is just not catching on. -
Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
A few more days into listening to the T-X0 and some revelations. First off, I'm a CD guy. I know...please no yelling. Vinyl is mastered differently and almost always sounds better as a result, but IMO this has nothing to do with the medium. Anyway, I pushed through some of the CDs I've been...- DrivenUnder

Without doing an A/B test I cannot speak definitively, but that does sound like yours are defective. Mine are warm, and bass is just a tad loose, but I would not call the mids honky by any means. if mine were what you are describing, I'd find them exhausting, but on the contrary, they are warm...- DrivenUnder

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
I find these a bit on the lighter side. Where with the PM-3 you can walk around town with them on, these would fall right off at the first quick stop. Very comfortable, just enough to seal. FYI, the ambient leakage of these is quite high for a closed back can. I think it is due to the plastic...- DrivenUnder

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
Got mine, gave a listen pushing them with a JDS Labs Element. Definitely need an amp. Warmer than the Oppo PM-3 that normally hangs out bedside, and much more comfortable. The distance between driver and ear is spot-on, gives a more open soundstage than I would have expected for such an...- DrivenUnder

Now that I'm relaxed and have a little nerve tonic flowing, let me state this another way.... It is my contention that a well designed and implemented, self-powered USB DAC should do nothing but suffer for any additional components added in the signal chain between digital source and input...- DrivenUnder

Some obstinate part of my brain is simply rejecting this logic (or illogic). The idea that a non-USB-powered desktop amp of ANY price would benefit from additional filtering\decoupling on the USB signal side makes my blood boil. This should not happen. The USB signal should arrive in whatever...- DrivenUnder

My confusion deepens...these seem to be somewhat contradictory statements. Again, I'm missing something. The first statements make it sound like there would really be no benefit to reducing noise in the USB bus supplied +5V, and the second states that there would be sonic benefits. I...- DrivenUnder

@jseaber Thank you for the extremely thorough and helpful explanation. I knew I was oversimplifying things, and that this would be a basic concept to someone like you. SOOOoooo....without treading on the toes of your upcoming blog post on jitter and dynamic range, are the folks who claim...- DrivenUnder

Well that's the rub, isn't it? Sure, it has nice, stable DC rail power via the wall-wart and rectification for the amp section, but that first crucial analog bit, if powered by USB bus power, could potentially introduce very audible noise, and there seems to be no reason to do that. As mentioned...- DrivenUnder

Hrmmm...interesting. I'm still having a hard time rationalizing the idea that some DAC\amp combos would ever even consider using power from the USB bus to run any part of the DAC. let alone the analog stage. It seems stupid. If you have clean, filtered power on-board for the amp section, why...- DrivenUnder

Is this really a concern? If the PC is outputting via ASIO, then what difference can the Wyrd make, for example? Forgive the ignorance, but we're still in the digital domain, so as long as DAC is supplied enough power and it's clock timings are good, then the output should be reliable. Maybe...- DrivenUnder

DC-Area Head-Fi Meet Impressions - November 7, 2015
I also recently learned that WASAPI and ASIO are not only non-standard, but are sub-par audio engine implementations. From what I'm finding, Linux (and therefore Android) uses a much more robust audio conversion engine, and therefore has the potential for much better sound. If you do a bit of...
