They definitely came from the factory, not a return/rebox from the retailer.  The Adorama box contained a sealed factory box from HiFiMan.     I'm returning to Adorama who will be shipping me a new pair.

I just purchased a pair of HE-1000s from Adorama while they had the $2099 deal available.  They arrived, but unfortunately had a dead left driver (despite no physical evidence of damage to the box or headphones).  I tried both balanced and unbalanced cables, and multiple amps.  So much for...

Got my Ethers yesterday!  I ordered them too late to qualify for the first 50 preorders that were supposed to get the DUM cable for free - However, I ordered through Moon Audio (which is out of state), and low and behold they arrived with the DUM cable!  That was a really nice surprise...
