    SONY NW-ZX500

Please stop saying SD card can have any effect on sound quality. This is not how the Linux kernel works. IO is always done with RAM between. Unless your SD card is broken the files are read equally with different cards. This can be proofen with checksuming. There are so many buffers in the whole...

It is still resampling but to 48000/16. Walkman app more or less bypasses whole Android audio stack

No that is not true. You can persuade yourself so but it is just unfounded and false

In case anyone needs to do that in the future. Power off the device Press and hold Power and Vol- until the sony logo comes up Release buttons. After a while an open Android and "No Command" should appear Press and hold Power, press Vol+, Release Vol+, Release power You now have the recovery...

The Sony 40th Anniversary Walkman Thread

Unlikely. Modems can be power gated and the don't introduce noise by design. In my humble opinion it is because of long-term availability. NXP i.MX series is known to be available for a long time whereas, e.g. Qualcomm mobile SoCs, are not available for too long and even worse supported for an...

This is correct. But pausing is actually handled by AudioFocus. If both apps behave correctly and request AudioFocus before playing only one should be able to play. I tested the Walkman app with my Odyssey music player (which does AudioFocus correct) and Walkman pauses once I start music there

Qualcomm smartphones usually do bit-perfect at least if they use codecs that use the offloading API which is quite a few on Qualcomm (IIRC even vorbis) but I would need to double check.Sony phones got to expensive. I use cheap Motorola now :D

I also hope they would do bit-perfect. At this point in time it looks like technically they are almost there. I don't know why they still resample. They are even getting correct format from MediaPlayer class of Android. Still it is already an improvement. I hope that the might just struggle with...

Yeah you can enable it in the settings. It looks like it changes the system's behavior substantially. If you enable it a new component appears in logcat. It is called IzmAudioResampler and it looks like it resamples ALL to 192kHz. Looks like it is bypassing Android's SRC completely. You can...

I also disabled nearly every application. Wrote a script for it that disables more applications which only works with adb. I also disable all the sound "enhancement" crap with direct (although it still resample to 48kHz unfortunately). I get about 10-11 hours of playback for ogg vorbis in a...

You can get to the bootloader with a key combination. I succeeded and got fastboot working. I did not unlock it, however. You need to enable unlocking in developer options first. I posted the key combination in this thread before. I am currently on a mobile so can not test
