If you're looking for a sound card specifically and not any other components, the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music has never disappointed me. It's a great value. Good sound for a decent price. Just my .02

It's a great console and I would recommend it to anyone who will use it for more than just gaming. It's not $600 because Sony thinks the graphics and gaming is THAT much better than the 360 or the Wii. It's $600 for all of the additional features it offers... namely its ability to play Blueray...
