If you can get the 801's balanced amp , it can drive he-500 ok to good sound quality, and it's definitely a big step up from ipc+p5.

Save some more bucks and try Sony mdr-1r ,sound neutral to me and darn comfortable. I can wear galsses and put it on my head for hours and totally ache free.
