Knowing that a AMP/USB DAC headphone amplifier can act as a DAC when connected to computer. However, i am wonder if it can act as a DAC when i connect it with my ipod by using a dock to USB cable!?

My budget is below $400 USD, would like to have an overall balanced sound improvements. And knowing that there's an ER4P to S cable adaptor available in the market,  so i want to look for a AMP or DAC/AMP which can drive it too.

After reading this review, i have a great interest in XM6 and it is definitely would be my first amp/dac. As I am a beginner, can anyone tell me the difference between three DAC chips and also the addtitional options on AD8397 DoubleCat, AD8610 set of two and AD8065 set of two
