I have a Schiit Dac and i have two choices, use the USB input, or the SPDIF coax coming from my sound card i also get the choice to enable 7.1 Virtual surround sound, but will enabling any Virtual modification of sound degrade it?

Thanks, i was about to go on Ebay and buy a Meter, but the one for smartphones works great and it's Free.   The 85/80 Sweet spot is quieter than I expected, but yet again i needed to know the maxium volume i could play for prolong periods.
