Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones
If that is the case, I would get a pair from Amazon with ability to return, if demoing is not an option.- daySpring

FX-Audio DAC-X6 2016 Release; potential sub-$100 king?
The DAC itself is quite good. Transparent with more than enough detail for the price. Line out to Atrox V2 class A amp sounds fantastic - powerful and rhythmic. The amp isn't super detailed or very wide, but it does the job. It has enough power to drive the HD650s to a solid listening level...- daySpring

Sounds interesting. Tighter bass and expanded soundstage - can't complain if a cable upgrade can do that. Any idea where to get the cable only, if one doesn't own a nightowl?- daySpring

============================================================================== Totally agree with the assessment. M1060 is just bigger and fuller sounding than HE400i. On the other hand, the vocals are really sweet sounding in HE400i and I think it is a tad faster in low/sub bass reproduction...- daySpring

It is, sorta, compared to the Odac, at least. I haven't heard the modi 2 AK4490, but assuming that my Chifi DYI AK4490 sounds similar, I'd say Mimby may be slightly punchier with a tad more oomph at the bottom end. But I'm really splitting hair here. Fiio Q1's dac is darker, quite noticeably...- daySpring

DACs (decent transparent ones - as in all of the modern day DACs over $50) may count for 0.0001% - 2.0 % of improvement/change in sound, at best. To get to that 2%, we are talking industry leading four/five figure DACs. Good and clean power is much more important, if you ask me. So, what amp...- daySpring

Any FIIO portable dac should do. I find my Q1 a bit smoother (less detailed) using the line out to Magni 2 than the Mimby and a DYI AK4490EQ, hence less harsh. I think a warmer amp can do a better job taming the highs on high volume levels.- daySpring

Atrox V2
It is not dark at all. I'd say, quite flat. Since it doesn't sweat powering the higher impedance lower frequencies of dynamic drivers, the bottom end sounds full bodied on so called bass-lite cans like K702, which may give the illusion of being 'dark'. I find the high ends just as extended on...- daySpring

m560. I haven't heard the M560 personally with this mod, but seems like an interesting thing to try: https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/monoprice-monolith-m1060-and-m560-planar-headphones.820107/page-26- daySpring

Couple with a higher power (better components) amp for punchier and tighter bass/sub-bass. The M1060s take EQ pretty well, so Real Bass Exicter DSP can be handy if you use Foobar2k.- daySpring
