7Hz Impressions & Discussion
i made this equalizerAPO setting that I really enjoy, if anyone wants to try it out. It shifts the resonance from 2 to 3khz and sounds a bit more natural IMO. Made with my 711 ear simulator.- davidtriune

Official Unofficial 8XX Discussion Thread - UPDATE SENNHEISER HAS BEEN SOLD!!! GT(heck)IH
i did the mod with all stickers removed and foudn i liked the original better, lol. so i used wide double sided tape to stick them back on. i think the effect is the samea s if you made an open back a closed back (or a half closed-back)- davidtriune

I like this V shaped tuning with a bass emphasis on the "cavernous frequencies" 500-1000hz. sounds great for classical. But it may be an acquired taste for some.- davidtriune

i tried the mod, and measured before and after on my miniDSP EARS, and they still measure very similarly. it's still very bassy, but the highs are opened up a bit more (to my ears, it's actually a little shouty). this is with all three stickers removed. i dont mind the tuning though. although...- davidtriune

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
i wonder how much better recordings would sound with probe microphones since headphones are better equalized and directional changes are more accurate. (not sure how dangerous it is to stick a pvc tube up your ear canal tho)- davidtriune

looks like just a simple volume difference. you could use channel_balance=(number of db difference) to match it- davidtriune

well if you do a sine sweep you can still hear it. it might be shifted due to variance in ear canal depth, but it's there.- davidtriune

i have the mesh filter model and i did a FR measurement if anyone is curious looks similar to crinacle's graph except for the higher 8khz resonance. it's actually a pretty big difference. i think he did some smoothing, but even with a 1/6 smoothing it's still about a 3-4db difference. (note...- davidtriune

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
Some models have ground, like the EM172, some don't, like EM258. I assume ground also helps with lowering noise. but not many models have that good of a frequency response besides the EM258. To me, frequency response is more important than SNR or sensitivity. Some have fried their EM172 in the...- davidtriune

I suggest also checking whether your mics are channel matched. I measured my SP-TFB-2 in REW with 1 mic on the edge of the table and one headphone channel pressed against it, then switched mics. It doesnt look well matched at all. My EM258s measure way better than my SP-TFB-2s. Your mics...- davidtriune

i think i fried my em258s too after hotgluing. this graph used to be flat, but now it doesnt pick up any bass anymore. these things are delicate.- davidtriune

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
Thanks a lot, and also this page is very enlightening for those wondering the same things as me. However, it seems to be saying that 12v is better for "small mics" than 5v. Is this true, or is that meant for the non-binaural condenser mics? maybe theyre TOO small and 12v would fry them.- davidtriune

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
^I seem to get that error randomly, and it goes away if I either a. record again or b. switch the test signal to the other one, e.g. pkl if you're using the wav one, and wav if youre using the pkl. I have a question. Is the "microphone boost" option in my windows the same as plug-in/phantom...- davidtriune
