Compare Sennheiser HD600 (or similar) to Etymotic ER-4P/S

I know - kinda apples and oranges - hard to compare over the ear headphones with in ear phones.  But there are times when the portability of the in ear headphones is desirable, along with their superior noise isolation.  e.g. Listening to headphones in public, I want something more discrete than...

    HD650 with rock music ????

The term "Rock" is soooo broad.  If you are into heavy metal with lots of thumping bass guitar and drums, sure... Grado is the way to go.   But there is a lot of music broadly classified as "Rock" that is actually quite complex - many layers on top of each other.  Perhaps the greatest and...

Are these new HD 650s or old?

Yes, with FiiO.  The E9 is a standalone amp.  The E7 is also a standalone portable amp with a really nice DAC.  The E9 has a dock specifically for the E7.  When using both, the E7 becomes purely a DAC.   Virtually all media nowadays is digital - MP3's, CD's etc.  But what you listen to...

Are these new HD 650s or old?

Depends on the quality of the DAC.  Your computer converts digital to analog via the speaker output port.  If you had a decent DAC/Amp combo, you could output your audio digitally via USB.   I have a FiiO E7/E9 combo.  Sound inputs directly via USB.  I also use the FiiO as a pre-amp for my...

Bose Quiet Comfort 15 (QC15): Impressive noise cancellation

Was just listening to the QC 15, as the wife is vacuuming.  The song was "Where To Now St. Peter" by Elton John, in Apple Lossless Codec.  The Bose was hooked to FiiO E7/E9.  I thought it sounded pretty good.   She finished vacuuming, and I did a quick switch to the Senn HD600.  Not to...

Are these new HD 650s or old?

I was fortunate to have a local store have them both for demo, and the let me sit in a comfy chair with my iPhone for as long as it took.   World of Sound in Mill Valley, CA was the store.  Call around your area, checking all the higher end stores.  Even if you have to travel a bit, it's...

Are these new HD 650s or old?

Just make sure you also try the Sennheiser HD600.  I was like you, thinking I would like the 650's best.  Then I A/B'd them and found the 600's more to my liking.  That saved me $100, which helped towards a new/improved DAC/Amp.

Bose Quiet Comfort 15 (QC15): Impressive noise cancellation

Most here have been fair towards Bose.  They are what they are, and if you want decent sounding headphones that are OUTSTANDING at noise cancellation, these are for you.  Some may say they are over-priced, and I can't argue with that.   All I am trying to say:   1. Don't slam Bose (or...

Bose Quiet Comfort 15 (QC15): Impressive noise cancellation

Why is it these threads about Bose always slam them for being over-hyped?  Have these posters checked out the websites of Sennheiser, Etymotic or any of the higher-end headphone producers?  They are filled with the same bloated "hype" as Bose.  It's called marketing.  What do you expect Bose to...

What is one step above HD650???

How does any headphone get "out of date"?  We're not talking about CPU's or GPU's or flat panel TV's.  There have been no astonishing breakthroughs in headphone or speaker technology since... I don't know when.  As automation has become more precise along with manufacturing tolerances...

Talk me out of The Beats By Dre.

Quote: Maybe so, but George Martin chose to add that near subsonic beat to the Beatles' version, the one I was referring to.  I doubt he was also the producer on the Bowie/Lennon collaboration.

Talk me out of The Beats By Dre.

It's absurd to think anyone here really "hates" bass.  I think we all can appreciate a nice low end; lose it, and you have no balanced sound.   Trouble happens when we try and duplicate that awesome, visceral bass from a live performance or a good loudspeaker setup.  You simply cannot do...

Talk me out of The Beats By Dre.

I tried out the Beats vs. Bose QC 15 at the Apple Store the other day.     Hands down, in all categories, the Bose was far superior.  They were more comfortable, had a wider range and much more controlled at the low end.  The Beats were bassy alright, but it was flopping all over the place...

In praise of Canz3D, crossfeed for MacOSX

Bumping this because I think it is a very useful app.  Canz3D just works, and is a great plugin.  The number of parameters can be daunting, but I think most will find a preset that they like... or at least use as a starting point.   I also love Audio Hijack Pro as a conduit for effects (such...
