The Etymotics HF5 Thread
I just parted with my Denon AH-D2000's, which were my very first pair of hi-fi cans, and I instantly had buyer's remorse. I managed to sell them for twice what I bought them for, so that eased the pain a little bit, but I had a moment of terror that I would never have another pair of headphones...- ctoth666

Portable Sources w/Digital Output Listing
I am looking for a cable to connect an Archos Recorder to a coaxial RCA-type input, and this thread says that the Archos is coaxial. That being said, I have only managed to use my Archos' digital output with a mini-toslink to optical cable. How can that be?- ctoth666

Denon D2000 vs. Beyer DT770 Pro 80 ohm Unamped ... Who wins?
Well I just had the opportunity to listen to the DT770's at Guitar Center and am an owner of modded D2000's. I have this to say about the unamped DT770: -The low end was surprisingly heavy, more so than the D2000's. -They really exposed the low-kbps mp3's streaming from Pandora in...- ctoth666

DENON AH-D2000 IEM (WITH A BIT MORE MIDS)
Hmm I am more or less in the same boat as the OP, however I am on the budget of however much I can sell my D2000's if that's what I end up doing. I had always been after an analytical sound, and since the D2000's are my first pair of audiophile-grade cans, I don't really know what else is out...- ctoth666

High-End Listening on a Low-End Budget?
I have a pair of modded D2000's and they are far and away the best cans I've ever heard. Now I know that they are an excellent set, but the truth is that I haven't listened to any other high-end audiophile headphones. Is there anywhere that I can go to listen to approx. 1k+ USD headphones or is...- ctoth666

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: Ok, I went ahead and generated a new file at the optimized settings and converted it to 16/44.1 and back again. I also exported multiple files from the same Live project as I did before. I also ABX'ed. I have determined the following: -I cannot tell the difference between any...- ctoth666

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: Yes there is randomization in the algorithm, but the generated sound is still the same across all of the files is it not? I used the same Live project, and it was merely exported with different settings. Also how is it that they aren't level-matched? All of the files were normalized...- ctoth666

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: All of the test files were identical. I will try a proper ABX test, but after recording some audio through the line input and doing similar "tests" I may have come to another conclusion, although I haven't verified it. My thinking is that digital audio recording is different from...- ctoth666

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: Well it was a very straightforward test. If you have the free Synth1 plugin then you can reproduce the tone that I exported from Ableton, but I suppose any plugin would do. I would like to learn something about audio sampling and bit rates from this. I don't quite understand: if...- ctoth666

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Quote: My knowledge of these things is very limited, but the only variable that changed was the bit rate. I exported the files all directly from Ableton Live with Triangular dither and did NOT do a final conversion to 44.1/16 if that's what you're asking. I set my interface to 96khz...- ctoth666

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
This thread inspired me to perform some very impromptu sonic experiments to determine whether or not I could tell a difference between bit depths. I have previously determined that I can hear the difference between 192khz and 44.1khz sample rates. Now were these blind experiments? No they were...- ctoth666

Further Denon D2000 Modding?
I have modded my D2000's beyond the point of no return haha. I have had them recabled, personally performed the so-called Markle Mod, removed the center paper backing, stuffed the cups with Fiberloft and smashed the cups open, and then screwed fine wire mesh over the opening, and just replaced...- ctoth666

Denon D2000 pleather pad center cloth?
My 0.02 is that it serves the same purpose as the grill cloth you'd find on any consumer speakers: protection, shielding, etc...if anything it dampens the sound.- ctoth666
