Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I got the Amiron foam set up, sounds great and improves transparency a bit. This is the perfect DT1990 now to me, with the loose clamp headband, elite velour and amiron foam. Now I have this, a DT990 with A pads, and a DT770 with B pads, and new leather headband pads on both. I like how you can...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
They forwarded me to Consolidated Sound Services (service@consolidatedsoundservices.com), who have the parts. They charge $10 for shipping so I might get some other beyer parts from them too. I also gave the B pads another try (with the looser clamp), and they are more comfortable now but still...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I did this headband swap. The looser headband from the DTxx0 Edition is exactly the same shape, just less rigid. The DT1990 feels perfect now and I can wear it for hours with no trouble. I use the Elite Velour pads but might give the B pads another try, which I previously found uncomfortable due...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I haven't tried it but it's supposed to sound quite different. I want the 1990's sound signature without the clamp. I have a spare looser headband from a an old broken DT770, so maybe I'll try it on the DT1990.- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Has anyone tried replacing the DT1990's headband with this one: https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/catalog/product/view/id/3976/ I'm noticing that my DT990 with DT1990 pads is super comfortable, better than the DT1990 with Elite Velour pads. The main difference is the looser clamp.- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
The 990 is polarizing because of its treble but it's ideal for electronic music and games. The 32 ohm one can sound good from any source and I use it as a travel/office headphone. The 1990 sounds better but needs an amp and is more suitable for home listening.- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I got the A pads on the DT990 after quite a bit of effort. The plastic lips are larger than the DT990's stock pads and they cannot just be stretched on. I used a blow dryer and slid a screwdriver underneath the lip to slowly get it on. They sound great and tame the DT990's treble spike while...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I've been using the DT1990 as my daily driver for a while now. The Elite Velour pads are well worth it, somewhere in between the A and B pads sound wise, and far better than either one in terms of comfort. They are less rigid and negate the DT1990's clamp. They have the soundstage of the A pads...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I like V-shaped a sound for what I listen to (electronic/game music) but still prefer the analytical pads, and just use eq with them. The B pads have nice bass but have a reduced soundstage and almost sound like a closed headphone. They might be better for some specific things but it's a lot of...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I did this for several hours. I also switched it a wider setting for the cups than I had on the DT990, and pulled the headband apart a bit as described here. The last step especially improves it quite a bit, although it has be done carefully. I'm finding the clamp more comfortable now and can...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Yes, these are really good for the prices they are going for these days. After a few days use though, I'm still finding the clamp to be tight coming from the DT990, which can barely be felt on your head. The DT1990 sounds really good, but I have to keep opening up the cups after a hour or so or...- CP5670

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I just got a DT1990 ($450 for a Beach Camera deal with stand/case) and A20 amplifier ($200 used) to upgrade from a DT990 32ohm. I use it mostly for games and electronic music from games, and run it out of an X-Fi sound card. I like the DT990 a lot and wanted something with the same type of...- CP5670

Upgrade over DT990?
I'll look at the deals there. How do the DT1990 and Amiron compare to the T1.1, which is more of a flagship but is older? From what I'm reading, it seems the DT1990 sound signature is closer to the DT990 but it's tighter/heavier than the T1. I have my own office so open headphones should be fine.- CP5670

Upgrade over DT990?
I'm certainly open to other companies. I'm just familiar with the DT990 and like the Beyer "house sound" for what I listen to. It is definitely bright, but sounds great after equalization and I much prefer that over darker or neutral headphones.- CP5670
