    Bad experience with Grado....

I am glad you resolved your problem. They look beautiful, and will sound great.

That's great!   What are you using for a source?

    Grado RS1i

Good luck with your new cans!   I'm using RS2's and I love them.   I run them off my Rotel amp, and they are very open and detailed.

    Shure SRH440 Vs SRH840

I have both the 7506, and the 840's.   The 840's are more opened, and reveal more detail, and are definitely worth the extra money.   The 7506 are more portable --if that is what you need.   The 7506 are good for the money, but definitely not on par with the 840's.

    Grado Quality Control

My RS2's were perfect out of the box, not a mark on them--- And, they sound even better than they look!   Just enjoyed John Coltrane with them tonight, and the RS2s sounded stellar!

    The Return of the Grado

Another vote for source quality!   Your first Grado experience on your audio equipment was probably CD and or Integrated Amp jack --  Now your source is Laptop!   If you are gonna use laptop and you want quality, you may want to consider an Amp to drive your headphones.

    ATH M50 vs SHR440/840

The SRH-840's do fine without an amp. I use them on my Sony PCM-D50, and they are excellent--way more than enough volume at 50%. They are even better on my home Hi-Fi amped by my Rotel. They do open up more with a good amp.    But, you may find the 840's slightly warm for serious...

    help for headphones around 100$

If you don't get the Shure 840's for the price you want, then consider the Shure SRH440's (around $100)-- they are excellent for the money!

    Why does everyone like Grados?

I love my RS2's, and I handle them with care like anything costly! Nothing I have tried has the clarity and detail of Grado's.   Grados are the only headphones that I can listen with at low volume levels-- and they still reveal details and clarity. With my other headphones and speakers I...

    Bit of a Dilemma

I second the Grados.   They are hard to beat for clarity, and details.   I was A-B ing my Shure 840's and Grado RS2 last night listening to the Miles Davis Legacy Edition of "Kind of Blue", and Herbie Hancox "Imagine",  and as nice as the Shure 840's are-- the Grado were so much more...

    Looking for an upgrade

Get some nice Headphones! Your Denon integrated amp/receiver will push them really well.    But, it is important that you just don't go out and accumulate more equipment, and that you get new equipment that you really like and will enjoy. That means you have to go out an audition plenty...

Shure SRH840's "Sounds nice....but i'm just not hearing it"

I love the Shure srh 840's, and believe they are hard to beat for the money.   They play very easily on my portable device, I usually can drive them too loud with the volume up only 30-40%.   With my home amp, they are fantastic..... plenty of detail, bass, great soundstage, midrange...

Help me choose some of my first real cans, if you would be so kind!

Give the Shure srh840's a test (about $180). Great sound, and excellent build quality.   Clear, great details, very musical. I like them far better than anything at their pricepoint. They are low impedance and will play well with a portable device.   Joseph
