How does this DAC compare to to the original Element's?

I'm looking to replace my tributes. Are the trumpets better at handling faster paced music like metal than the tributes? That was my main complaint for the tributes, that and the somewhat muddy/overpowering bass that kind of veiled other ranges of sound. It doesn't mean I didn't like the amount...

If I use a Xonar STX do I need an amp to pair with the q701? And if so which would you recommend in the price range of around $100 and no more than $200?
