Dragonfly Red & Grado SR325e - where next?
Wow ProtegeManiac, Thank you very much for such a long and detailed response. Lots to read and digest here! Physics/Electronics was never my strong subject at school - but I feel like this is something I'd like to learn more about in my middle age! So, the HD600 and SR325e are equivalent in...- clarejh

Dragonfly Red & Grado SR325e - where next?
Hi all, So, I've been enjoying this combo for a couple of years now but am starting to get "the itch" to try something else, either an upgrade, or something to complement the Grados, or perhaps just some better amplification. Currently evaluating the following: 1) HD600 - Had to try these...- clarejh

Sibilance - Grado vs. Beyer
Thanks all. I've since read that Beyers are generally studio cans and that they're used to find faults so boost certain ranges, much like Sony MDR-7506. This begs the question, can these types of cans be used for music "enjoyment"? Are some people more sensitive to sibilance than others? Are...- clarejh

Sibilance - Grado vs. Beyer
Aha! This really does explain it. I've just compared these two models on RTINGS.com. See attached pic. I appreciate your comments, however in this case that peak in the sibilance area causes very unpleasant S's and T's which sound like terrible hissing snakes to my ears. Not nice to listen to...- clarejh

Just got the Grado SR325e. They're not THAT bright
Hi there, My SR325e's are my dailies for a while now. They really excel at rock that has piercing lead guitars and are also great at vocals. 50s-60s jazz and soul sound great on these too. I really love the intense, almost bracing guitar sound on these - others may find them fatiguing. I've...- clarejh

Sibilance - Grado vs. Beyer
Hi all, I have some Grado SR325e which I use with the Dragonfly Red. I tried both the Beyer DT990 and DT880 PROs, 250Ohm versions. I'm aware that all of these are classed as "bright" headphones. I like bright and detailed sound. However, I absolutely hated both pairs of Beyers; to me...- clarejh

Decent passive isolation over-ears recommendation
So, I went for the new model HD 25s. I have to say I was surprised by these - great sound for closed on-ears. Very lively and energetic. Bass more pronounced and punchy on certain tracks, good mids (although not Grado forward) and pleasing highs. They do sound a bit boxy at times, but for my...- clarejh

Decent passive isolation over-ears recommendation
Thank you for these suggestions. I have heard of both of those but they don't seem easily available to me. I'd prefer to purchase new if possible. I also don't want IEMs as I sleep with earplugs every night. Yes - HD25s are on my list. I'm slightly confused by all the different versions. Is...- clarejh

Decent passive isolation over-ears recommendation
So, I did some more digging, and the Sennheiser HD-25s and HD-280 PROs come up tops in both sound and isolation - anything other suggestions before I pull the trigger? Thank you. John- clarejh

Decent passive isolation over-ears recommendation
Thank you both for these suggestions. These are brands of which I am unfamiliar! I will check these out - I'm not sure how widely these are available in the UK, so trying them in person may be difficult. Another headphone I quite enjoyed not mentioned above, was the AKG K240 STUDIO. This was...- clarejh

Decent passive isolation over-ears recommendation
Ha! Yes, it is something of a conundrum... The M2 Sonys are almost the same price as the M3s here in the UK. I can't justify that cost for isolation purposes - would rather get some HD600s for that money. I know I will get better sound without ANC, and I don't need wireless. For the money...- clarejh

Decent passive isolation over-ears recommendation
Hi all, This is my first proper post, please bear with me! I currently use some Grado SR325e with my Dragonfly Red and Macbook Air. Music taste fairly varied: Post #10144 I'm pretty happy with the setup, and I enjoy the "Grado sound", but am now in the market for some headphones that...- clarejh
