    Creative - Never again!

One thing that is always in the back of my mind is when the ZV+ battery dies. As you know, these batteries start "dying" the moment they're made. Typically a lifetime of 3 years is suggested by most Li-ion battery manufacturers, after that is a bonus. Sure, likely you'll have a different player...

Best stores to try out headphones in Toronto?

Yup, Bay-Bloor is good for demoing cans. I don't think anybody *knowledgable* lets you try out IEMs though. The only luck I've had trying the lower Shure models is at big box stores where they have opened returns. This is a real problem, IEMs being so expensive and from my limited experience...

Recommendations for relatively cheap canal earbuds?

To the guy who is "part Scottish": so am I, and I'm not cheap, just thrifty of course, though I like to call it maximising bang for the buck. I am not able to audition expensive buds around here. The most expensive I have tried out are the Shure E2C and E3C. Talk about not worth it! Look, get...

    DAP mW specs thread

^ Yeah, I've seen that info. Nothing about the actual amp output (though you can assume that's what they mean by jack rating, probably not unreasonable). But: power output rating has nothing to do with impedance of the phones. It is an overall measure of the combined voltage/current output...

    DAP mW specs thread

I'm wondering where you got the numbers for the Creative Zen V Plus and Nano Plus. I can't find the info anywhere, guess Creative is too ashamed to mention it... They do mention the *headphone jacks* are rated for 5-7mW I have read somewhere they put out 6mW/ch @ 16 ohms, and I'd believe it...

Disappointed with Sound Quality of Zen V+

This is the results of the experiments I've done with the ZV+, nothing fancy but tells you a bit about what's going on. Passed sine waves through the equaliser. Tried the whole range, but ones of the EQ frequencies are very instructive. Massive distortion with boost over 5dB typically, 3dB is...

Disappointed with Sound Quality of Zen V+

Agree the sound isn't as good IMO as some older and current (cheaper!) Zens. But it sure isn't bad. I definitely would NOT use Smart Volume...the fact you like the SQ on better means I guess whatever I say about SQ won't mean much to you... Yes, the EQ is only good for +/- 3-4dB at best, then it...

    Creative - Never again!

I also have a Zen Nano Plus, very similar in performance/SQ to the MuVo. I think it actually performs and sounds very well. Its firmware and method of file display/access is kinda limited once you go over 1GB, not very convenient. Does rather well on a single NiMH AAA, I think. However, this...

    Creative - Never again!

I have done lots of "research" on current Creative units. I own two fairly current. My interpretation of the bottom line is: when something goes wrong with a Creative unit, no matter what it is, you will probably not be able to fix the problem yourself. They have a horrible problem of going into...

Smoking deal on e4c's, should I upgrade?

^ Exactly what I was thinking! Haven't even heard the E4C, but would take a chance at that price. I can't even find the E4C on the LD web site, just the E2C. LD is out west (from here) only. Best Buy *might* price match if I could find it on the LD web site...least that's what I was thinking if...

    couple of ep-630 questions....

No offense but: good mids/highs and lousy lows...you sure you got EP-630s? With a tight fit, the lows can be a bit overwhelming IMO with lots of music, so often requires some EQ taming. What is your source? Keep playing with the fit, I don't think you're pushing them in quite enough. The...

    Stax: Worthwhile Investment?

Be wary. Much (most??) Japanese electronics cost less in the U.S. than in Japan. To make it really worthwhile, the thing to look out for is stuff you can't buy over here. Also, a real big current thing is warranty only honored in country of purchase...check before buy. Have fun!!

    Triple Flange tips for e2c

The Ety triple flange tip's barrel can be hugely stretched without ill effect...on the tips. It just takes a little effort to get them on a larger diameter bud without breaking the bud. How are you using these new Ety tips? What I like is I can push them right in my ear for great isolation...

ROCK songs sound WAAAY TOO muddy. Why?

OK, I have played with the equalisers more on my Creative Nano Plus and Zen V Plus. Let me tell you, I have designed/made and owned many many equalisers, from the simple 5 band analog to 1/3 octave parametric, and the DSP type too. These ones in the Creatives are absolutely the worst I have...
