NAD C352
I haven't tried the C352, but I have owned the C350 and I currently have a C320bee and an old 701 receiver. Of the the 3 NAD's, I have owned, the 701 has (ironically) by far the best sounding headphone jack. I should add that I use the tone controls on the 701 to tune the sound the way I like...- cfo

$23 speakers at Best Buy that measure well and sound good
I agree that within the confines of a BB store the Insignia's are about as good or better than anything there. I auditioned them and might have tried them at home but they were out of stock. Based on what I heard I don't feel compelled to go back, however, BB is a horrible place to audition...- cfo

High bang for the buck transport?
You may want to consider the Pioneer DV-578a. It was and probably still is available on close out on the internet for about $100 plus shipping. I got mine from etronics.com. As a transport, I found it to be ok. Not as good as the Parasound CBT-2000 I owned at one time, but not as bad as some...- cfo

Best Integrated for under $700? Help please!
Moving from an NAD C352 to a C372 will likely only be a subtle improvement, probably a little more bass and a little better dynamics. Moving from the NAD to a similarly priced amp like a Rotel, will get you some improvements in some areas (the Rotel will have better clarity and detail...- cfo

Need opinion on CD player and receiver
I don't think the headphone jack from the receiver will be as good a match for your Sennheisers as the headroom micro amp. I think the problem is probably the Toshiba. I would try the Onkyo first as a cd player and if that doesn't work, then either send it back or try the microdac. You will...- cfo

Recommandation for CDP under $400?
Pioneer DV-578a for $100. It is a "universal" player but I only use it to play cd's and a few sacd's. Sounds a little better than my $600 Sony SCD-555ES. Very close in sound to a $1000 dac I use. Needs revealing interconnects to sound its best.- cfo

Whats a good cheap dvd player to use as a transport for a dac?
The best feature to look for is the right to return it if it doesn't sound good. I'm not familiar with your dac and if it doesn't have jitter filtering built in then you will likely hear a difference between whatever transports you try. I have tried 3 dvd players as transports with mixed...- cfo

Soo.. Where are these 100-300 dollar speaker amplifiers people talk about?
I wouldn't rule out the NAD because of its low price. While NAD does not have quite the resolution of higher priced separates, the difference in cost is not indicative of the difference in performance. NAD does have a distinct "sound". It is a little soft on top and smooth in the midrange...- cfo

Which Player Vaulted CD Sound From Toy-dom?
Both of my Micromegas were purchased from Audio Connection in NJ. Micromega is (or was) a French Company and may no longer be in business, certainly not in the US. Their dacs come up occaisionally for sale on Audiogon or Ebay. I wouldn't buy one of their cd players or transports, but their dacs...- cfo

Which Player Vaulted CD Sound From Toy-dom?
I bought the Meridian MCD in 1984 as a Christmas present to myself. It was better than any cd player available at the time, but did not challenge my turntable in any respect. The digital gear that really did it for me was the Micromega dac. I sold my Theta Pro Basic II dac shortly thereafter...- cfo

Recommend a Semi-Portable Budget Player with Digital Out
I don't think there are any pcdp's being made today that have digital outputs. However, there are a few Sony models that are recently discontinued that had mini-toslink connections that are still available on ebay. If you search around in the portable audio forum, you can find the model numbers...- cfo

Toshiba 3980 4980 5980 DVD players
Mechanically, the player I had seemed to work fine. The only issue I had was when I briefly tried it as a DVD player, I couldn't get the multi channel outputs to work properly. The remote control takes some gettting used to as you have to hold some buttons down for a little while in order to get...- cfo

Darker Sound
I will add another vote for Ultrasone. I have an older version of their sealed cans and they are not bright sounding. Not dull either. They also do not "feel" or sound "closed in" like some sealed cans I have tried.- cfo

First Naim Experience
I don't think it is a good idea to get too hung up on "multi-bit" vs bitstream technology. I have heard good examples of both technologies and when they are properly implemented a musically satisfying result can be obtained. I have 2 fairly old (Mid 1980's) bitstream dacs that displaced more...- cfo
