Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)

I’d agree - one of the major strengths of the EX1000 is how you can EQ it in any way and it holds up. The versatility of a large dynamic driver is such a plus and for me when it comes to comparing with more recent reference IEM’s it seems to come down to preference (and what one’s definition of...

Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)

I have amassed a collection of almost every tip imaginable over the years - and my favourite for these is the comply comfort foam tips, which elevate bass and provide a decent seal. Paired with a warm amp (I use Cayin C5) - the bass on these is the best I’ve ever heard in terms of detail and...

I can speak for the RHA T20 vs the Zenith. With the filters, there are way more options, and the filters on the Zenith change the signature far more than the ones on the T20. I listened with the ‘bass’ filter on the T20 and the black filters on the Zenith. For me, the Zenith beats it across all...

Yep - trying to avoid the can of worms. I generally go for cables for aesthetics and if they help the fit of the IEM’s over the stock cable. This cable did well on both for me - the ear hooks are particularly good. Any change in sound is open to interpretation / personal experience.

Hey! Yes - this is the one. Main thing for me is that is has helped get a good fit. Would recommend but YMMV etc... I went for Amazon because it felt more straightforward.

Agreed - I’ve definitely been swaying to bassier tips. I’ve finally tried all the tips I have (my Symbios were too small for these unfortunately). I settled on Comply comforts for a bit, but the best for me is now the foam and silicon tips that some with the Sony XB90EX or MDR series - but a...

For the couple of posts about a missing wire / opened box: I can totally understand your frustration, but have you contacted Bob to discuss? My experience is that he has certainly done a lot to warrant the benefit of the doubt - or at least an opportunity to explain the situation. He has...

The triple comforts run quite small - so a medium of them may suit you well. Another option could be aurisonics sureseal tips, I think there’s a few places that still do them. Sennheiser also do some decent tips, and they run a bit smaller too - think you can get them direct from the...

Looks great, and more importantly good to hear that the sound is better for you. Not so sure on the concept of ‘burning in’ a cable though!!?

Totally agree with the earlier post that tip rolling has had a bigger impact that changing wires - that’s been my experience too. Spiral dots seem to be the one most people have settled on, including me. The R1 is now sold out on the website too!

The Cayin C5 portable power house.

If you are after a full and warm sound (loads of bass) or want to drive power hungry headphones, then yes. The sound is still one of my favourite and one I return to. The lower floor noise on more modern units can mean they are used more - but depends what volume you listen at. This really is a...

Head-Fi Basshead IEM thread (lists page 1)

The R1 and Cayin C5 combo is absolutely redicilous in terms of bass quantity, and with a warm source, shows how much bass the R1 can handle (which is seemingly endless).

Enjoy! I’m sure you’ll like it. It would be worth sourcing some DSD files (if you don’t have any already) as they sound awesome on this.

+1 - totally agree with this I guess it also depends on how much you love the EQ settings on the Plenue, I found them entertaining - but, as said above, the Onkyos hardware produces a sound you cannot reach using the synthetic settings on the Plenue. And the Plenue’s Hardware is some way behind.
