Just ordered velour pads for these and also picked up a used pair of 990 Pros for 80 bucks on a craigslist deal.  All I can go on at the moment is un-amped through my pc and ipad/iphone but the 990 is winning.  Much clearer and more forward mid/high end plus much more comfortable.  I'll update...

I think they are thinking in the cable along with a volume and maybe play/pause button.  It isn't out yet but I took a cable from a pair of beats and plugged it in and its working perfectly.
