I voted for CMSS-3D when it comes to gaming but imho the best solution would be proper HRTF used by/built in the sound-engine itself

got the E.D.G.E. GX400 this week, atm I'm not able to play so I can't say how they compete with my K 701

yes the Xonar has Dolby Headphone and the Prelude CMSS-3D (Creatives own technology)

I can only say that my Zhaolu D3 is a real improvement compared to my X-Fi (K701).
