    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I would recommend upgrading to the balanced version of the Realiser if you plan on using a balanced speaker output long-term. I tried these transformers and it did not help with the ground loop problems I had - it actually made things worse. I wish Smyth had shipped the Realiser with a grounded...

My current PRIR is only 6.0 from an imperfect nearfield home setup, so I didn’t think there would be any interest. I should have tried to make Atmos work, but didn’t have a lot of time. I couldn't see a way to edit the metadata either? (change names, attach images etc.)

A generic HRTF is nowhere close to replicating what the Realiser A16 does. The combination of a custom PRIR and HPEQ, which is a pain to set up if you don’t already have a fully-equipped Atmos setup installed, sounds completely unlike any virtual surround tech I’ve heard before - and I’ve used...

You lose the object-based information from DTS:X - so support is not worthless; it’s just very rare for anything to only have a DTS:X track with no Atmos version available. DTS/DTS-HD MA are a lossless conversion to LPCM.

What player are you using that can’t convert DTS/DTS-HD MA to LPCM? Don’t get me wrong; I hope they do deliver DTS support as promised, but that seems far less important than many other missing features, bug fixes, or proposed upgrades like Dirac support.

I think people are getting too hot-headed over this before there has even been a formal announcement of Smyth Research’s plans. While I would certainly like to have DTS:X and Auro-3D decoding built in, I’m far more concerned about continued development of the product than sinking the company...

Having spent a lot of time figuring things out with the Realiser and getting it properly set up, I'm now very happy with the results that I get from it. However I was reading the release notes to check what some functions do and I see that firmware 1.98 apparently enabled the USB line-out port...

I'm a bit confused about why there are two versions for this. The Xbox version contains a security chip that is required to make it work with that console and the PlayStation one does not? Does that prevent the Xbox version working with the PS5? I thought it just used standard USB Audio Class 1...

I've read the manual several times now but can't seem to figure this out: how do we set the channel layout for AV Mode? I'm trying to switch between 9.1.6 headphones and a 2.1 speaker system. Stereo mixdown mode only seems to work for the headphone outputs? Those are ART Audio DTI isolators...

Yes, I understand that. The idea of being able to listen to any content "in a reference sound room" via my headphones was the selling point of the Realiser for me. What I did not anticipate is how that actually sounds. If I am watching a movie or playing a game where there is a scene outdoors...

I thought these were supposed to be calibrated microphones. I'll have to see where the option is to adjust their level, as I did not notice it before; but there is an overwhelming number of options. The more I listen to it though, the more I think this is not the right product for me. The...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I recently purchased a Realiser A16 and have mixed feelings about it so far. It seems to do a really good job of emulating speakers in a room, but that's quite different from most other virtual surround tech, which simulates speakers in a virtual space. It's like listening to a recording of...
