DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
it doesn't have that, which is one big reason i'd like to upgrade, even though i've read places that coax sounds just as good. who knows, and i've never had a chance to do an AB comparison but i just like the idea of upgrading from an old Marantz player, and running all balanced cables anyway...- Bluey

DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
N3rdling, i have a mix of stuff. my amp is an Aleph 5, speakers are Thiel 0.5, which are the smallest thiels made but sound surprisingly good with the right source components. for a transport i use an old Marantz cd6000 KI signature. interconnects are balanced, though not of high quality and i'm...- Bluey

DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
yesterday i went and picked up the D1 from the post office. it's about 1.5km away and i didn't realise the box was going to be so heavy, or big. anyway after a struggle carrying the thing home in the rain i plugged it in to let it warm up,along with the rest of my system and went out to run some...- Bluey

DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
i read that as well, but then found this on head-fi: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f43/so...96-dac-448441/ Quote: the 24/96 version of the D1 uses a CS8414 receiver, DF1704 filter (yeah.....), and 8xPCM1704 DACs... i misquoted earlier, according to this guy [feckn_eejit] there...- Bluey

DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
IpodPJ, thanks for the short information. i've done alot of reading about the the comments you made, and i realise i didn't know all that much about DACs. however, this model D1 (24/96) has in fact the PCM1704 (x4). i've spent the afternoon reading about DACs and the different architectures and...- Bluey

DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
yep, it's right around there [in euros], but a little more since Pass Labs comes at a premium in Europe. i've heard the DLIII, and i like it, but i have an Aleph 5 and that's the lure of the D1. i know the Pass sound and for me it's what i love, but can a 10 year old DAC really beat the...- Bluey

DAC purchase - PS Audio DLIII vs. Pass Labs D1
you know, i thought the same thing, but at the same time wouldn't want to be stuck with an over-the-hill DAC, which i will have a difficult time unloading if indeed the sound is not as much to my liking as a DLIII. i can audition a DLIII, but not the D1. so, headfiers, gimme a few more pushes...- Bluey

over-the-ear wires, or not?
been a while since i posted, but i've finally ordered a new pair of IEMs, the UE700. they were around €200 some months ago, but i just checked Amazon.de today and they were €118 from Amazon, free shipping, so...SNAFU! call it an impulse purchase, but the more i read here about IEMs the more i...- Bluey

S4 or UE 700 or ...
i've been curious about the UE700 vs IE7 too. actually, UE700 vs IE7 vs Image X5 vs Etymotic ER4P to be specific. i've tried a friend's S4 for a few minutes, and my initial feeling was they were too warm and muddy for my taste. i've also had a friend's pair of ER4Ps for a few weeks, and...- Bluey

musicality and warmth vs. accuracy
thanks so much for the responses, Shigzeo that's really interesting info. i guess i'm still trying to figure out if i will buy dynamics or BA when i replace my old Sonys. i've got the it narrowed down to the X-5 or IE7. i really like my friend's Etymotics, for detail and air they were lovely...- Bluey

musicality and warmth vs. accuracy
Hi, do dynamic driver IEMs have a more musical and 'warm' sound, when compared to the more accurate BA driver IEMs? and, if so, which sound do you prefer? thanks! Bluey- Bluey

Balanced Armature Drivers - Manufacturing
Hello everyone, here are a few questions: -How many manufacturers are there for BA drivers; many, or only a few? -Are there any earphone companies which make their own BA drivers? -Who supplies BA drivers for who? -In which IEMs will i find the same BA drivers; or are they all custom...- Bluey
