Thought I would do an update. Recently bought some HD650s and RS1is, also waiting for a Firestone Audio Little Country III. Updated my rig, it now is in a Fractal R3, has a Nvidia gt210 (to accompany my 470) and a Mugen 2 rev. B, ramped the i7 870 to 4GHz too)- BillW

Quote: LightPeak is optical with a copper rail for power, thunderbolt is just copper, I think. Intel is developing lightpeak, and I think apple decided to do an early iteration of it, looks pretty cool but I don't think it will take off. I don't think the bandwidth is going to cope as...- BillW

IMO it will be another firewire though. It will be interesting when it is replaced with LightPeak though.- BillW

High capacity that supports huge variety of file types and has a good UI
Well I had 10 days to return it and it cost me $420 NZ. I didn't want to compromise for something that was just going to piss me off. I think i'll hunt down a 5.5, do the 250gb mod with rockbox and maybe get that cool clear case for it so I can see it's insides! Thanks for all the support guys!- BillW

Oh wow, thanks for all the info! Could you post some pics of it or a link or something? I would love to see it. Any idea if a 1.8" SSD would work? What's in the classic now? Just a 1.8"? Also I might consider putting in something like a 3500mah battery in. What is the diymod?- BillW

How much did that set you back? Is it a red wine audio mod? I am considering hunting down a 5.5 but I'm not sure if they'll accept entries from nz. Also does a 250gb hdd drop battery life at all?- BillW

About 25% of my collection is in FLAC. I don't want to convert all that to mp3, it's just not practical. I might hold out until we get some windows 8 tablets, hopefully by then, seeing some 128gb ssds- BillW

I travel around a bit and also work at a store that sells musical equipment so it's good having a large library at hand. I thought there was an issue for the latest classic? If the classic supported flac it would be perfect- BillW

I'll probably get flac (haha) for this but I need more than 110GB, that's the biggest issue.- BillW

High capacity that supports huge variety of file types and has a good UI
I bought the Cowon X7 a few days ago. Sadly it was nothing but a really bad experience, mostly due to it's terrible UI and unresponsive screen. The other option was the iPod Classic 160gb, however little file support kills it for me. I had a look at the Archos 5 but I really don't want a...- BillW

Quote: I am now! I'm moving to a new house soon, so I am going to properly calibrate my system and try and turn my bedroom into a small home cinema. Don't know quite how well it will work out, but hopefully it will be good. Also on a side note, I literally just got a cowon x7, and...- BillW

Here is an update. I know I really need to move my speakers further from the wall but for where they are they sound great. I got a new job at a sound store and can get headphones and amps at cost price for us, so I have already been thinking about picking up some PS1000s, HD800s and K701s...- BillW
