@Raikel - Thank you for your answer.  I am indeed using the USB 2.0 slots on my laptop.  Also, I did re-install the DFU driver already (I had it initially installed, tried installing emCORE without iTunes and using the custom recovery driver from freemyipod, and then a few days ago reverted back...

Yes, none of the EmCore versions are working.  Also yes to your second question - I am always safely removing/ejecting the usb device after copying only one .ubi file.  I ran the diagnostics and did both an automatic test and a manual test to check each and every aspect - everything checks out...
