I do not notice any muddiness in the 0404USB headphone out with my Senn 580's. But the sound does seem to gain something (that I'll call richness) when it is run through my integrated tube amp. I suspect that tastes would vary as to which "sound" one would prefer. To my tastes the 0404 HP sounds...

I do this fairly often. I listen to speakers and occasionally put on headphones to change the sound - bring it closer. Sometimes I turn off the speakers sometimes I don't. Each amp adds a different sound so I play around with them.

I didn't find any mention of charging adapters. Is there an adapter to charge these in your car. How about recharging on long airline flights?

I happened to be in Wallmart yesterday and they had them stocked up but they wouldn't sell them until today. $38 and change.

I use the 0404USB input to take a signal from my phono output on my integrated amps I see no reason it wouldn't work fine on an exclusive phono preamp.

When I looked in to this a few months back for an old tube amp many individuals on tube sites mentioned the Sovtek 12ax7 lps as sounding similar to Mullard's. But this was for a speaker output not for a headphone amp. They run $10 - $12.
