European Repair Centre for Tube Amps
Hi, Apologies if this is not the correct place. I would like to ask advice for any repair shops you may know that may be willing to repair tube amplifiers. Ideally in South/Central Europe.- audiargent

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion
Hi, has anyone tried the Tungsten with the Cayin HA-300 MKII? On what settings? And is there enough headroom? I am going for the DS version. Would really like to try a 300B tube amp.- audiargent

It is the vibrating / clicking sound. When I switched off the channel, it stopped vibrating. So I assume it is coming from the transformer or some related components - definitely not from the tubes as I switched those off.- audiargent

Hi, https://streamable.com/czqv0t I have noticed a strange sound, not sure if it is coming from the transformer or something else. I swapped the KT170 positions. This is HE6se on the 8 Ohm impedance at around 75% volume open. What is it? Do I need to worry?- audiargent

This is why I have good hopes for the ModHouse Tungsten. It is high impedance but also has a very low sensitivity. Should be even quieter than the HE-6 SE and hopefully better in technicalities. My Odyssey too has an impedance switch (125 ohm) and ultra linear. I like ultra linear more. I find...- audiargent

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion
I have an impedance switch, the output transformers were custom wound by Sowter to provide output at 8, 32 and 125 ohms. I remember dear Thomas taking a long time wiring it all up. I am not a tube expert, but he had provided me some photos of the build process. These were his own measurements.- audiargent

It actually is around - 100R 3.6W @ 32ohm, 9.8W @ 128ohm. I just re-checked my correspondence with him. That is in Triode mode. UL should be more. Is that still OK? Will update you when I eventually get one. It is a long wait! Thanks!- audiargent

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion
Dear all, If you don't mind giving some advice - I have an UltraSonic Studios Odyssey amplifier (built by the late Tomas Jernberg). It is a tube amplifier, and has custom Sorter output transformers with custom windings at 8, 32 and 125 ohms and can output 13-14 Watts at these windings. Will...- audiargent

He was indeed. I have the HEDDphone (OG or V1 now) that is technically quite high achieving. But it is the HE-6 SE that truly pushes the correct buttons for me on this amp... Maybe due to fondness - how amazing Thomas was as we discussed about it, while the amp was being conceived in our...- audiargent

Just purchased the ModHouse Tungsten Double Sided. Seeing my Odyssey was made for hard to drive planars, I hope this will be a great match. At 155 ohm and 78 dB/mW average, I will put the impedance matcher put to test :) Thomas had told me this was 13-14 W into 8, 32 and 128 ohm...- audiargent

Check the driver tubes. I had similar.problems, I was hearing "static". He told me it is 99% a driver problem. That was actually Tomas' last message, 21st February :( and he was right.- audiargent

I would be all in for continuing the legacy. Not as UltraSonic, as something different. But the ideas themselves, I think should not be lost. The philosophy of design should persist I think, with fresh new ideas why not.- audiargent

From my experience, Tomas worked on enclosures depending on customer request and preference. My Audio-GD themed build was precisely that. He was kind enough to accept something like that and was kind enough to work around it to develop a fabulous amp.- audiargent

This is what I envisaged, when I had started discussions with Tomas about my amp. Big rectifiers, blue glowing KT170s, and that 6SL7 gain I have not been able to with other tubes. RIP dear Tomas, every time I'll listen to this amp, I'll be happy and think of you.- audiargent
