For $40 a 2.1 system will likely give you bloated and imbalanced bass, where as you could spend the extra money on nicer 2.0 speakers and just crank them a little. If as you say it's for your bedroom and assuming your bedroom isn't too big in my opinion that'd be the better route to go.
