New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
Funny I really did not like the RE2000 when I had the opportunity to try them for 15 minutes. I found them to be kind of V-Shaped and the soundstage somewhat lacking for the asking price. But to each his own!- Albator75000

New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
I can recommend the ones I own. Unique Melody Maestro (Mason) V2. Really great IEMs, well balanced, superb soundstage and details. Or Jomo Audio Samba. Both 1600-1700$.- Albator75000

New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
Hi everyone, I am planning on pulling the trigger on the SP1000 but beforehand I would like to have some feedback on using it as source for open-back heaphones through the balanced output. I was thinking about the Focal Clear. Do you think it can be driven correctly? Thanks- Albator75000

Astell&Kern AK70 MK II and Michelle Limited IEM coming in October
@JasonNYC Hello Jason, it seems like the USB DAC feature supports only up to 24/96 stream... Is it going to support up to 192 kHz and/or get an ASIO driver in the future? It seems rather surprising to me for such a device as a lot of lower end players support this.- Albator75000

Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC
If I'm not mistaken the largest capacity mico sd card available (newly released by Sandisk) is "only" 400Gb.- Albator75000

Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC
@WayTooCrazy This is just ridiculous! It is a rather expensive product and it is disappointing the see the absence of key features in this new release from AK.. The Plenue R seems to have the same issue though.- Albator75000

Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC
@bluedolphin The shell is basically the same as the previous one only 2mm thicker and approximately 25g heavier (sorry I don't know the US measurements system)- Albator75000

@Partlys4int I messaged AJ to know If they plan on stocking the cheaper ZX300A with only 16Gb ROM. Will update when I get an answer.- Albator75000

Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC
I understood it is resampled to 24/176 PCM by the CPU before playback. I don't really know much about DSD but I suppose it takes the (possible) advantages out?- Albator75000

Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC
Thanks for the info! But seriously who cares about installing a driver? It seems really odd to me to have a 192 kHz capable chip and not exploit its full potential... Even if they roll an update afterwards I would feel like buying an unfinished product, as I use my DAP a lot as a Desktop DAC.- Albator75000

Sony NW-ZX300
Thank you. It seems like buying it from CN would be cheaper than buying in EU, even with customs tax (which could or could not be applied). It's tempting!- Albator75000

I'm really interested in the ZX300! Do you know some good sites/ forwarding services from China/Japan to consider the ZX300A or ZX300s Tourist version? EU volume cap sucks...- Albator75000

Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC
You should also consider the upcoming Cowon Plenue R! It is cheaper but still packs some very nice features. I also want to change DAPs and was considering the ZX300 and AK 70 MKII, but the 24/96 limitation of the AKs USB Dac is a no-no for me...- Albator75000
