Interesting. I've heard the argument for warmup time of amps but never for headphones themselves. Have you tried warming up just the amp (if you have one) with another set of phones and then trying with your main phones? Just a thought.

Do a search for the T-amp. The original was a $30 amp that was reported to be an exceptional find. These days there are people who build the T-amps into a nice enclosure and sell them for $200+. A little searching, and maybe a little DIY, will yield the cheaper versions.
