Mark Levinson № 5909 headphone
Just on a long haul flight from the UK to Melbourne (via Dubai), and this has been my first use of the 5909s on a flight. What can I say? Stunning, whether connected Bluetooth to my s24U or connected via a wire and the supplied flight adapter to Emirate's ICE system. ANC has done a brilliant...- AcademicBarzo

Mark Levinson № 5909 headphone
It's a simple fact that comfort is so variable. I've been using my 5909s on commutes, and I've had them on my head for up to three hours straight. I find them supremely comfortable, particularly the pads. I'm afraid I don't know if there are larger pads available. You may find that the...- AcademicBarzo

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
With you here. I'm on an Xperia for all the reasons given above, but I'm strongly considering going back to the Samsung S24 Ultra series as a better overall phone experience. My choice of phone should not be dictated by codec support, particularly, in Samsung's case, when it is using a...- AcademicBarzo

New Dali iO-12 ANC Headphones – Impressions Thread
Interesting, but why not give users the option to decide for themselves? Many phones, including Android flagships from Samsung and Google, do not have Apt-x Adaptive but do have LDAC support. The same is true of virtually all DAPs. Do the IO-12s pick up the Apt-x HD codec on supported devices...- AcademicBarzo

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
So far, I've been lucky with the headband. If it is going to go, let's hope it is within the two year warranty period. Proper (not cosmetic) stitching, not just glue, has to be the answer going forward for premium headphones.- AcademicBarzo

I agree that there is quite a significant bass boost to the 5909 in ANC mode.- AcademicBarzo

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
Interesting. This is deliberately about ANC as using the headphones on my commute is my predominant mode of using ANC BT headphones. There is a bass boost on the Aonic 50 too with ANC - best described as a slight thickening of the sound (but in a positive way). I did say I'd try these without...- AcademicBarzo

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
I did a brief listening test between the ML 5909s, B&W PX8, Focal Bathys, and, for giggles, the Shure Aonic 50. All were set to ANC on and my default listening modes (so 'Soft' on the Bathys and Mimi engaged, 'Standard' ANC on the Aonic 50). I had my Eufy Robovac doing the rounds. EQ at default...- AcademicBarzo

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
After 11 months almost daily use, and used on the road (but always carried on their case) they look as good as new. The leather on the ear pads are a joy for the ears.- AcademicBarzo

Indeed re the PX8. Choice is a great thing. The ML 5909s and the PX8s sound very different - very clearly tuned that way, as has been said about the Shure Aonic 50s and the others. As my listening journey with the ML 5909s continues, they are clearly much closer to the 50s than the PX8 (and...- AcademicBarzo

Mark Levinson № 5909 headphone
Thanks. I wonder if my port is recessed somewhat. I'll investigate further. Not a big issue, as I said, but one I'll keep an eye on within the warranty period.- AcademicBarzo

Mark Levinson № 5909 headphone
Two questions: (I) Are the left and right indicators coloured like the 5909 logo on the headband (grey) or not? On my pair the latter - they are engraved but not coloured. (II) I notice a low, but audible clicking/cracking sound when inserting the supplied USB-C cables into the headphone. It's...- AcademicBarzo

No idea re the MW75s. I know they share the same OEM, but I'd suspect they are turned very differently.- AcademicBarzo

Mark Levinson № 5909 headphone
I'm a new owner of the ML 5909s. Bought them last Friday after an audition, on a 30 day money back trial period (great dealer) and on a good deal. I'm still burning them in, but I'm impressed so far. I'm coming from B&W PX8s, which have been my commuter headphones for over 11 months and the...- AcademicBarzo
